As a Staff Software Engineer in the Gestalt Design Systems Team, you will lead the charge in scaling our design systems across Pinterest's vast user-facing landscape. This is an opportunity for a passionate and experienced engineer to contribute to a critical piece of our infrastructure, shaping the future of Pinterest's design language and user experience.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Lead Strategic Initiatives: Drive the evolution and growth of the Gestalt design system, identifying opportunities to improve its efficiency, scalability, and impact.
  • Take Ownership and Deliver Results: Take end-to-end ownership of initiatives, guiding them from conception through technical design, implementation, and release.
  • Foster Collaboration and Promote Adoption: Collaborate closely with engineers and designers across the organization to promote the adoption and integration of the design system into existing and future projects.
  • Enhance Functionality and Usability: Develop and implement new features and functionality for the design system, ensuring its effectiveness and usability for developers and designers.
  • Measure, Analyze, and Optimize: Analyze data and track metrics to measure the effectiveness of the design system and identify areas for further optimization.
  • Advocate for Best Practices: Champion best practices in web development, accessibility, and design system governance.
  • Share Knowledge and Inspire Growth: Mentor and inspire fellow engineers, sharing your knowledge and expertise to level up others and foster a culture of continuous learning and growth.

 

What we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years of experience in web development, including 2+ years of experience with design systems.
  • Deep understanding of JavaScript, CSS, DOM, HTTP protocol, and the fundamentals of web development.
  • Expertise in modern web technologies such as React, Redux, Relay (or similar state management solutions), GraphQL, and either TypeScript or Flow
  • Proven experience in implementing, governing, and managing design systems across large-scale projects.
  • Track record of delivering large, cross-functional projects across multiple organizations and being a champion of developer experience, performance, and quality.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, designers, and product stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams in a distributed environment to make design system improvements, test functionality, and evangelize the adoption of design systems.
  • Passion for web development and a strong desire to stay updated with the latest technologies, trends, and best practices.
