We are looking for an experienced and energetic Account Director, Team Lead to join our team in Shanghai. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strategic mindset, who will nurture and grow a large portfolio of clients in the area of consumer packaged goods (CPG), in a way that will ensure commercial success for the Greater China region.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Responsible for motivating, developing, and coaching a team of Account Managers/Executives
  • Embody Mintel’s corporate culture and demonstrate Mintel’s leadership values
  • Ensure that the team’s commercial targets are achieved and that Mintel’s core client servicing strategy with each client is executed and adapted appropriately to each client’s core business objectives
  • Create account-level business plans specific to the assigned portfolio
  • Setting an example to the team via the following:
    • Maintain and grow existing account relationships at senior levels using excellent communication skills, strong follow-up, and sharp attention to detail
    • Become a product expert across Mintel’s key products and services and be able to present and communicate comfortably in front of large groups
    • Manage and ensure client servicing requirements are met for each client by working closely with Mintel’s analyst and client support teams
    • Travel to clients for face-to-face meetings (up to 50% of the time or as needed) and demonstrate a highly polished, professional, and consultative selling style
    • Leverage client relationships and playback client goals/objectives to grow accounts by securing additional products or services
    • Continuously deliver creative business solutions to prove ROI and gather value statements on a quarterly basis for each client to aid in the renewal and entrenchment process
    • Network throughout assigned accounts by leveraging contacts throughout client organization structure targeting across departments and at senior levels. Identify new champions within organizations to increase revenue streams.
    • Negotiate and close contracts to meet sales upgrade, consultancy, and renewal rate targets as set by the management team
    • Be able to confidently present data, train, and communicate comfortably in front of large groups
    • Ensure accurate recording of client details, meetings, objectives, and opportunities within Salesforce CRM
    • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes and ensure they are implemented within the team
  • Communicate to the Head of Commercial - CPG, China on all key issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Commercially-minded:You have a proven track record of delivering a return on investment and achieving sales targets both individually and when leading a team.
  • Great communicator:You have extremely polished verbal and written communication skills, and can adapt your communication style to suit each client, your team, and across teams.
  • Short and long-term focused:You have an understanding of the immediacy of winning this month’s team sales results while making the appropriate adjustments to ensure the same for the next 6-12 months.
  • Coach:You develop and boost the team’s confidence around the necessary basic sales skills, as well as coach on emerging techniques. You coach what you know, but also provoke new ideas and thinking and have formal and informal processes for coaching managers and individuals. You help individuals understand how their role fits into the broader organisation.
  • Creative problem-solver: You are able to identify complex problems based on a broad range of factors.  You also are able to develop & implement optimal solutions.  You establish key results, you track learnings and you embrace continuous improvement.
  • A Practitioner:  You should have at least 8 years of individual and team sales success, with a focus on account management, a track record of selling consultancy solutions to the C-suite, as well as rooted connections within the CPG sector. You possess and apply practical and technical skills, knowledge, and experience related to sales and customer services.
