Role Description The Dropbox Tax team has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Director, Tax Controversy and Risk Management, reporting to the Director of Transfer Pricing, Controversy, and Risk Management. This role will partner and collaborate seamlessly with members of the Tax, Finance, Legal and business teams to help drive and support our commercial strategy and lead global tax controversy for Dropbox.   The Tax Controversy Specialist is responsible for overseeing, managing, and resolving tax disputes and controversies on behalf of Dropbox. This position requires an in-depth understanding of tax regulations, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to work closely with internal and external stakeholders.    In this role, you’ll bring enthusiasm for all things Tax controversy and thrive teaming with other Tax folks to drive and deliver Dropbox projects and initiatives.  You’ll be ready to roll up your sleeves to design and implement Tax processes, policies, best practices, and frameworks to help scale a growing Tax team and function. You are a self-starter who follows through, gets stuff done, and has a passion for navigating tax controversy and risk management.   Responsibilities
  • E2E global tax controversy strategies: Lead E2E global tax controversy strategies including interfacing with tax authorities.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Ensure all necessary documentation is prepared and maintained for tax disputes. Monitor compliance with tax laws and regulations to minimize future disputes.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research on tax laws, regulations, and court rulings to develop effective arguments in favor of the company's tax position.
  • Communication: Collaborate with internal finance and legal teams. Maintain open and clear communication with tax authorities and internal and external advisors.
  • Risk Assessment: Assess the potential financial and reputational risks associated with tax disputes and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed reports and summaries of tax controversies, including their status, progress, and potential outcomes. Present findings to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Compliance Training: Provide training and guidance to internal teams on tax compliance and tax controversy best practices.

 

Requirements
  • 12+ years of tax, transfer pricing, and global tax controversy experience with progressively increasing responsibilities and accountability
  • Big Four Public Accounting and/or Law Firm experience combined with in-house company tax experience ideally at a technology company
  • Demonstrated experience working on and implementing tax controversy and global transfer pricing policies, best practices, tools, strategies at scale
  • Technical expertise and understanding of US, OECD, and global transfer pricing/tax laws
  • Analytical experience with research, economic modeling, valuation, and quantitative analysis skills
  • Excellent communication skills and strong Excel skills 
  • Exceptional prioritization, project management, and organizational skills including an ability to synthesize complex tax matters into simple, concise communications
  • BA in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business, or equivalent
  • Advanced degree (MBA, JD, MST, Ph.D.) preferred
  • Professional certifications (CPA or similar certification) preferred
  • Ability to thrive in a Virtual First environment as well as with in-person collaboration

Total Rewards

Dropbox takes a number of factors into account when determining individual starting pay, including job and level they are hired into, location/metropolitan area, skillset, and peer compensation.  We target most new hire offers between the minimum up to the middle of the range.

Salary/OTE is just one component of Dropbox’s total rewards package. All regular employees are also eligible for the corporate bonus program or a sales incentive (target included in OTE) as well as stock in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).

Current Salary/OTE Ranges (Subject to change):• US Zone 1: $183,600 - $216,000 - $248,400.• US Zone 2: $165,200 - $194,400 - $223,600.• US Zone 3: $146,900 - $172,800 - $198,700. Dropbox uses the zip code of an employee’s remote work location to determine which metropolitan pay range we use. Current US Zone locations are as follows:• US Zone 1: San Francisco metro, New York City metro, or Seattle metro• US Zone 2: Austin (TX) metro, Chicago metro, California (outside SF metro), Colorado, Connecticut (outside NYC metro), Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York (outside NYC metro), Oregon, Pennsylvania (outside NYC or DC metro), Washington (outside Seattle metro) and Washington DC metro• US Zone 3: All other US locations
