At Tripadvisor, we want you to bring your unique perspective and experiences, so we can collectively revolutionize travel and together find the good out there.

You will report to the Assistant General Counsel for the Tripadvisor brand and will be an integral member of both the Legal Team and the Vacation Rentals business unit.  The successful candidate will be an organized, creative, and articulate legal professional who is able to manage a number of high-priority matters in a fast-paced environment.  The role will carry a significant amount of autonomy.  The Attorney, Litigation/Commercial will be expected to work in a cross-functional, hybrid work-from-home, work-from-office model, with limited travel on an as-needed basis.

What you’ll do:

This position will involve working on contentious matters for the global Tripadvisor Group, focusing on such matters within the USA. The role will incorporate not only litigation but also risk management, strategic decisions, and oversight of external counsel where necessary.  Candidates should be familiar with a wide range of contentious matters, with experience in litigating all the way from pre-filing to trial and appeal.

The role will also support and provide product, regulatory, commercial, and transactional advice to various teams within the Tripadvisor Group, with a focus on its global Vacation Rentals businesses.  This position will report directly to the Assistant General Counsel for the Tripadvisor brand; but will work closely with the Head of Business Strategy and Operations for Vacation Rentals, Flights and Cars, and the product and engineering teams dedicated to the Vacation Rentals businesses.  While every day will be different in this fast-paced position, some of the roles and responsibilities you can expect include:

  • Providing legal support on a wide scope of matters for the business, including the Vacation Rentals business unit;

  • Ensuring compliance with applicable local, national, and international laws and regulations affecting Internet platforms;

  • Overseeing changes and developments in product offerings and managing risks related thereto;

  • Providing strategic legal and business advice to help develop comprehensive, long-term approaches to significant or recurring legal issues/risks;

  • Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, including data processing agreements, terms of use/terms of service, subscription agreements, technology and content licenses, services agreements, and business development agreements;

  • Collaborating with various other teams to ensure tax obligations concerning advertisers and travelers are handled appropriately;

  • Providing advice with respect to promotional materials, online/offline advertising, and email marketing;

  • Working closely with other lawyers in the Legal Department ( in the UK and US offices) in a collaborative manner; and

  • Engaging and managing outside counsel.

What we are looking for:

  • 3+ years of experience, preferably both in private practice and in-house, covering transactional, regulatory, and adversarial matters. 2+ years of litigation experience is essential but with the desire to broaden out into wider e-commerce-related work.

  • Experience of work relating to the travel industry and/or online marketplaces is very desirable.

  • JD from an accredited law school, and member of a state bar - with a willingness to sit for the Massachusetts bar, if not already a member.

  • Strong work ethic and the ability to prioritize and follow through on numerous projects concurrently in a dynamic environment.

  • A self-starter who is able to work well both independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent business judgment and strategic thinking.

  • Fluency in English is required; fluency in a second European language (particularly Spanish, French, Italian, or German) is a plus, but not required.
