Everyone belongs at OVO

At OVO, we are on a mission to solve one of humanity's biggest challenges, the climate crisis. And we know it takes all of us to change the world. That's why we need diverse people from all abilities, gender identities, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, life experiences and backgrounds to join us.

Teamworking for the planet

Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero. So, naturally, the team you’ll be joining plays a gigantic role in making that happen. Here’s how:

Comms Planning is a new but fundamental function within the Brand & Marketing department - responsible for synthesising strategic priorities and key messages from across the business into a clear, actionable and ongoing plan for the OVO Brand. This plan allows us to build positive associations with consumers and encourage them to join us on our mission. To do that, they need to easily understand what we offer that can help them decarbonise and save energy.

Succinctly, what we do can split into three key areas:

  • What we can say: Keeping a macro one-view of all the messages we can claim. Taking an immediate and more long-term view on how these may evolve.
  • What we should say (and when): Aligning commercial goals, product pipelines, customers needs, competitor movements and external factors across each quarter to build an impactful comms strategy.
  • Where should we say it: Collaborating with channel-leads to define a holistic role of channel framework. Ensuring we’re improving impact by harnessing our channel mix appropriately.
  •

    This role in a nutshell:

The Comms Planner will report into the Head of Comms Planning (based in London), working closely with them to help embed the above principles into efficient processes within the business.

This is an exciting and multi-faceted role which requires someone both strategic and broad-minded. As this is a new function, you’ll be the first into a brand new team, but working alongside the wider Brand & Marketing department. This role would suit someone who considers themselves a bit of a ‘swiss army knife’ in terms of their skill-set but looking to sharpen their strategic thinking and planning skills.

    Your key outcomes will be:

    • Be an enthusiast for all the products and propositions that the business offers, striving to form great relationships with these teams, galvanising them in order to understand what’s in their pipelines and how that may impact our comms plan.
    • Keep the Comms Planning tools updated - which requires regular contact with different business lines and marketing leads. Reviewing these changes and understanding who may need to know about these in order to have coordination of key messages across our channels.
    • Support on the planning of message sequencing on our website’s homepage. Using performance data as well as our comms strategy and commercial targets to advise what the right messages should be. Supporting the maintenance of this plan with key partners.
    • Support on the regular optimisations of the Comms Plan. This includes ad-hoc refinements driven by changes internally and externally, as well as using quarterly tracking of OKRs.
    • Help to coordinate the right cadence and processes to amplify these changes to the right cross functional teams.
    • Lead bi-annually on the coordination and testing of message claims, including the results and debrief plan.
    • Support the Head of Comms Planning on the yearly planning cycle. Pulling together slide presentations that strive to make the complex simple.
    • Support the Head of Comms Planning on defining and building a Role of Channel framework. Being a key communicator with channel leads in order to ingest the right information and data.
    • Deputise, when needed, for the Head of Comms Planning in meetings where information relevant to comms planning is shared and ensuring the relevant information is relayed and cascaded.
    • Help to define the right processes in order to embed the comms planning function optimally within the business.

Systems: Experience of Google Suite tools (Google Docs and Sheets in particular).

You’ll be a successful Comms Planner here at OVO if you…

    • Have 3 years or more experience in the fields of either Marketing, Advertising, Communications or the Commercial function of an organisation.
    • Are passionately organised with a curious eye for detail. There are a lot of documents to keep up to date with lots of changes happening across plans.
    • Have a proven understanding of the importance of brand and ideally a foundational knowledge of different channels through the funnel.
    • Are adept at working both collaboratively and independently.
    • Are a confident communicator, who’s not afraid of finding the right people to get the right information. With an ability to listen and build positive relationships.
    • Have confidence working in an emerging area, with the energy and ambition to help embed the vision that’s been set.
    • Are a proactive thinker who wants to learn and be given responsibility.
    • Someone who’s not afraid of, but can embrace change and find the opportunities within it.
