About the role

Elastic is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Control Plane Services team. The team is responsible for providing Elastic engineering teams with the capabilities and services required for deploying and orchestrating Elastic’s applications in our SaaS platform and making them accessible to our customers.

You will be responsible for managing a team who is focused on building services for our SaaS platform, including building Kubernetes controllers and applying GitOps practices using Argo CD while working in a highly scalable SaaS environment. You’ll also get to work with leaders from other teams to build new features and capabilities.

What you will be doing
  • Manage a team of versatile engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to ensure their and the team’s success
  • Handle and establish your team’s roadmap in collaboration with the product management team and tech leads; ensure requirements and the “why” are clear
  • Ensure the quality and maintainability of your team's work and actively participate in code reviews as needed
  • Collaborate with leaders from other engineering teams to successfully deliver cross-team projects
  • Improve engineering standards, processes, and ensure the engineering culture in the team is good
  • Work closely with our Support team and help ensure we have the right processes in place to provide world-class support to our customers
  • Develop a culture of mutual respect and collaborative decision-making
  • Identify staffing requirements and help drive the hiring strategy and recruitment for the team and attract and hire top talent
  • Support the growth, development and training of team members through regular performance evaluations
What you will bring along
  • 2+ years of experience managing a team of software engineers
  • Experience leading engineering projects, ideally in a SaaS environment
  • Experience with performance management (promotions, PIPs, development plans, terminations)
  • Experience as a hands-on software engineer and strength in computer science and distributed systems fundamentals to understand the engineering work that is going on in your team
  • A conscientious approach to communication and a genuine interest in the success and growth of the people you work with
  • Ability to communicate well with individuals and groups to accomplish a common set of goals
Bonus Points
  • Experience working with distributed teams in a remote setting.
  • Experience developing distributed systems, Kubernetes Operators/Controllers, and usage of Cloud service providers.
  • Ability to dive into the technical understanding of how a product works.

Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary.  This role does not have a variable compensation component.  The typical starting salary range for new hires in this role is listed below. 

These ranges represent the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the ranges may be modified in the future.  

An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Elastic believes that employees should have the opportunity to share in the value that we create together for our shareholders. Therefore, in addition to cash compensation, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic's stock program.  Our total rewards package also includes a company-matched Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) with dollar-for-dollar matching up to 6% of eligible earnings, along with a range of other benefits offered with a holistic emphasis on employee well-being.
