Role Description
Symphony is looking for an experienced lawyer to join our established and well-respected legal team as maternity cover for a minimum of 6 months commencing on or around 26 February 2024 (with some flexibility on start date). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial contracts but is also comfortable working on a diverse set of matters, supporting a wide range of business contracts, collaborating closely with business teams on deal negotiations, and providing key legal guidance at all levels of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate, and interpret a wide range of contracts with customers, vendors, and other third parties, including SaaS agreements, order forms/SOWs, data processing addenda, strategic partnerships, and agreements with consultants, suppliers, and other service providers.
- Work closely with Sales to manage requests and inquiries from customers and prospects, including RFPs/RFIs, supplier questionnaires, and requests for order forms, amendments, terminations, and non-renewals.
- Become an expert on Symphony’s standard contractual positions, products, commercial model, and business policies to help structure deals, balance legal risks against business objectives, and provide practical advice to internal stakeholders.
- Support HR teams on global employment law matters and related activities.
- Assist with integrating commercial operations of newly-acquired products and businesses.
- Provide creative, pragmatic, and effective legal solutions for business stakeholders within tight timelines.
- Provide general legal support on a variety of matters on an as-needed basis, including employment matters, corporate transactions and M&A, privacy, product, intellectual property, marketing, and other laws and regulatory areas that impact Symphony.
Required Skills and Experience
- At least 3 years of post-qualification experience negotiating commercial transactions with a minimum of 1 year of in-house experience. Additional years of experience is a strong positive.
- Experience negotiating a range of commercial agreements and working understanding of commercial law matters.
- Excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication, analytical, and negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves and act as a legal generalist to support day-to-day needs of the business.
- Admitted to practice in a UK or European jurisdiction, or the New York Bar.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with technology-related contracts (e.g., SaaS) strongly recommended. Fintech background is a plus.
- Experience supporting a high-volume, international sales organization.
- Experience working with financial firms and familiarity with financial regulatory regimes.
- Prior experience working on employment law matters with HR teams in the UK and Europe, and/or intellectual property experience is a plus.
