ABOUT THE ROLE

Purpose is seeking a Country Director based in Nairobi to expand and spearhead our Africa project portfolio and presence. They will be joining our internationally diverse campaigns team and working closely with counterparts across the globe. We’re looking for folks with experience in stakeholder management, lead generation, climate movements, and team leadership. 

The Country Director will play a leadership role in expanding Purpose’s existing project portfolio across Africa, as well as spearheading opportunities across Purpose’s other key issues areas including Children & Youth, Mis- & Disinformation, Health Equity, and Democracy & Human Rights. 

This role will be responsible for managing the Purpose Africa portfolio of work — creating innovative and inspiring campaign strategy, overseeing implementation, ensuring projects are on-budget and on-time, and tracking against long-term strategy and KPIs. The Campaign Director will work in conjunction with the Purpose leadership team and in-country program and project managers, to ensure high-quality project design, implementation, measurement and reporting.

You should have experience of several years managing multidisciplinary teams and complex projects, and serving as a lead representative with clients and stakeholders, including senior leadership of major foundations, NGOs, government and corporations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Development & Partnership Management:

  • Grow the Purpose Africa project pipeline, specifically help to build existing relations, identify new business opportunities, identify development opportunities in the social impact space.
  • Nationally and globally add strategic value based on current trends and knowledge.
  • Develop relationships within relevant sectors by being the key representative at conferences, gatherings, Climate Weeks, and other public forums.
  • Cultivate trusted advisor status with senior client contacts, steering stakeholders towards stronger outcomes and negotiates persuasively to create solutions
  • Integrate into the partner outreach process and identify engagement opportunities for campaign collaboration
  • Manage partnerships with clients, vendors, partners and corporations

Campaign Strategy, Development & Management

  • Design and execute multi-faceted research to support campaign insights, strategy and thought leadership 
  • Identify and build campaign and partnership opportunities in the issue space
  • Build, prototype, and launch new online and offline campaigns and accelerate the most promising existing efforts based on data driven insights;
  • Create compelling strategic storylines that demonstrate the connections from insights to strategy, using & proactively building upon Purpose’s core frameworks and IP, and creating big ideas in collaboration with campaigns and creative teams to shape them across a project 
  • Provide decision making, oversight and troubleshooting capacity on a number of campaigns being executed simultaneously;
  • Play a role in the development and constant refinement of our model of acceleration and creation: How do we assess which projects are the most impactful? How do we create quantum and not just incremental change? 
  • Review and oversight of all project content, documentation and collateral

ABOUT YOU

  • Campaign or communications background, ideally from a leading consultancy/agency or non-profit advocacy organisation, serving as a lead representative with clients and stakeholders, including senior leadership of major foundations, NGOs, and corporations
  • Demonstrated track record leading complex projects with multidisciplinary teams in a deadline-driven environment;
  • Established relationships with key advocacy, NGO, government, and private sector organisations;
  • Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and complex projects;
  • Understanding of Pan-Africa campaigning landscape
  • Experience in the climate sector 
  • Experience managing large-scale campaigns from concept through execution, including Developing and executing campaigns across channels, including earned and paid media, content-led strategies, and direct action;
  • Experience running iterative, agile, and/or lean campaigns that emphasise experimentation and scaling of success, ideally within a technology context;
  • Ability to manage a young, dynamic and ambitious team;
  • Excellent writing and communication skills;
