We are looking for an experienced Data Scientist to join our global Data Science and Analytics department. As a part of the Research & Development team within Data Science and Analytics, you will [have the opportunity to represent our London colleagues and stakeholders while you] partake in hands-on development of new and novel data solutions in collaboration with a small, but experienced group of data scientists. This is an exciting opportunity to work on ground-up innovation for Market Research across multiple industries including, but not limited to: Consumer Packaged Goods, Beauty and Personal Care, Financial Services and Technology.

 

You should come into this role with a few years of data science and/or research experience under your belt as you will be expected to manage individual projects with minimal direction, proactively seek feedback, be an advocate within Mintel for data science, and be adaptable to new information or priorities. Holding an advanced degree in a STEM or other quantitative discipline is preferred. 

 

This is a hybrid role and is expected to be available to work from Mintel’s [London/Belfast] offices twice a week. This role has a line manager in Northern Ireland and collaborators in London and the USA. The ability and willingness for occasional travel to these locations is preferred.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Building positive relationships with stakeholders in order to help identify new opportunities to advance Mintel’s offerings through data
  • Iterating and experimenting on new data solutions, with a fail-fast, value-driven mindset; focusing on delivering tangible impact to end users
  • Working with your peers and engineering teams to build solutions into production, manage or improve on live models hosted in our evolving Machine Learning platform 
  • Working collaboratively with multiple groups within Mintel including our Product Development and Commercial teams. You will work on both longer-term, strategic research projects and short-term, revenue generating or ad-hoc requests and will occasionally be client facing.
  • Assisting in driving the advanced analytics capabilities at an organization focused on gleaning insights from data
  • Accessing a variety of interesting data sources spanning multiple industries and used by a variety of high profile customers
  • Gaining exposure to a variety of interesting data science applications from language and images to time series and creative applications of data mining principles
  • Continually learning - as a part of a fluid, innovation focused team, you will stay current on emerging data science technologies and other quantitative techniques

What We Are Looking For:

You have practical experience in SQL and the ability to find insight in complex and/or imperfect data. Hands-on experience working in a distributed cloud environment such as AWS, GCP or Azure is an advantage. You will work alongside data analysts and so will ideally have experience with modern BI platforms (Tableau, Looker, PowerBI, etc.), Looker preferred.
