About this role:
In order to strengthen our IT department, we are looking for a DevOps Engineer (f/m/x) that joins our Engineering office in Berlin. Here, you will join our Operations team and work alongside a highly skilled group of Linux/Web System Administrators.
You will work closely with our in-house and external development teams, and with staff across Pepper to design, deploy, operate, maintain, and lifecycle applications and infrastructure to help keep our momentum rolling. Furthermore, you will also work with external providers to manage resources used by various teams at Pepper.
You will report directly to the Head of Infrastructure.

Your responsibilities will include:- Linux and container-centric capacity and application orchestration
- Supporting the ongoing operations of existing projects
- Helping design and deploy new projects and infrastructure
- Understanding, avoiding, and addressing points-of-failure in complex distributed applications
- Ensuring availability, security and performance of business critical applications
- Optimizing costs and providing "best fit" for highly dynamic workloads
- You are familiar with DevOps and SRE approaches
- You are an innovator with strong opinions, quick problem-solving abilities, and a results-oriented attitude
- You are a Cloud Native application admin with experience running production workloads on major public cloud providers
- You believe in solving problems; not treating symptoms
- You have extensive experience with various scripting languages
- You have extensive experience managing Infrastructure as Code
- You are comfortable working both independently and with a team to accelerate project timelines
- You work with Linux, Containers, and container orchestration platforms daily
- You are experienced with version control software (Git)
- You are deeply familiar with Networking: TCP/IP, DNS, and routing
- You are experienced with continuous integration, continuous delivery, and versioned release software (Gitlab / Jenkins)
- You are deeply committed to constant improvement
- You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- You have excellent written and verbal English language skills
- You are thrilled by the idea of orchestrating and administering projects on massive scales
- You are familiar with infrastructure testing: You're able to quickly understand the root cause of a problem and identify a strategy to prevent reoccurance
- You are experienced with application middleware and highly distributed applications
- You have a deep understanding of Linux systems, you know how the kernel works and how to better optimize for highly targeted workloads
- You are experienced with database platforms covering Relational, Columnar, Timeseries, Document, and more
- You are experienced with a multitude of caching strategies and how to implement them
- You have a deep understanding of vendor independent multi-cloud workload management and disaster recovery
- You have worked with various application monitoring and performance analysis tools
- You have advanced programming experience with the latest versions of PHP
- You are deeply familiar with MVC web application architecture
- You deeply understand the 12-factor app approach
