DevOps Engineer 

Location: Hobart, Australia 

Position Overview: 

We are seeking an knowledgeable DevOps Engineer to help design, build, and operate the infrastructure that supports our global development, testing, and production environments.

This role focuses on ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of our cloud platforms while enabling development teams to deploy and operate services efficiently through modern DevOps practices such as Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD, and Kubernetes.

The successful candidate will work closely with software engineering, security, and operations teams to improve deployment processes, maintain high availability of services, and ensure strong observability across our systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Platform & Infrastructure

  • Assist with the design and analysis of platform requirements to support scalable and reliable systems.
  • Design, build, and support global development, testing, and production environments.
  • Maintain consistent environments between development and production to minimise defects caused by configuration differences.
  • Manage and maintain Kubernetes clusters used to deploy and operate applications.

Cloud & Infrastructure as Code

  • Design and maintain infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks.
  • Manage and evolve cloud infrastructure primarily within AWS.
  • Contribute to and maintain infrastructure codebases using tools such as Pulumi, Terraform, AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or similar frameworks.
  • Ensure infrastructure is version controlled and managed through Git-based workflows.

Deployment & Automation

  • Work closely with developers to enable frequent and reliable code deployments via CI/CD pipelines.
  • Maintain and improve build and deployment systems such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar tooling.
  • Support continuous delivery practices and automate operational workflows wherever possible.

Reliability & Operations

  • Assist the company in meeting and maintaining service-level objectives (SLOs).
  • Ensure rapid detection of service interruptions through monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support operational incidents (with remuneration).
  • Identify and resolve problems arising during development, testing, and release processes.

Security & Compliance

  • Work with the security team to ensure environments are secure, monitored, and regularly tested.
  • Implement and maintain cloud security policies, IAM configurations, and account structures across AWS environments.
  • Identify risks in infrastructure and deployment processes and recommend mitigation strategies based on best practices.

Observability & Monitoring

  • Improve system observability by implementing logging, monitoring, and alerting solutions.
  • Enable operational teams to report on system health, performance, and usage.
  • Assist teams in diagnosing system behaviour and answering operational questions.

 

What we are looking for:

Must haves

  • AWS Expert: Deep knowledge of networking, security, and managed services (RDS/KMS) in a multi-account setup.
  • K8s Operator: Production experience managing clusters and containerized deployments.
  • IaC Practitioner: Skilled in Terraform, Pulumi, or CDK via source-controlled repositories.
  • Developer Mindset: Proficient in TypeScript or Python with a focus on CI/CD automation.
  • Reliability Driven: Focused on observability, incident response, and proactive system health.

 

Nice to haves

  • High-Scale SaaS Operations: Experience managing global, high-concurrency platforms where 99.9% uptime is the baseline.
  • Modern Deployment Patterns: Practical experience implementing GitOps (e.g., ArgoCD) or progressive delivery strategies (Canary/Blue-Green) to minimize deployment risk.
  • Global Architecture: Proven ability to operate and sync services across multi-region cloud environments to ensure low-latency AI responses worldwide.
  • Security & Compliance: Familiarity with SOC2, ISO 27001, or similar frameworks within automated cloud environments.
