Role: Digital Copywriter

Location:London, England, United Kingdom/partly WFH/partly at OLIVER head office (Needs to be available for team and client meetings at RA)

 

ROLE MISSION

Working in partnership with our client, the Digital Copywriter will work in close collaboration with the client to create powerful and impactful original B2B copy. The work is extremely varied, from SEO copy and articles to videos and social posts, including:

  • Originating long-form and short-form SEO-optimised content for articles
  • Rewriting web page copy for the client's UK site for translation into local languages across EMEA, LATAM and APAC
  • Working closely with an external SEO agency to review their SEO content recommendations, content briefs and page rewrites in local languages – a basic knowledge of European languages is helpful, or willingness to use Google translate
  • Writing PPC ad copy
  • Email campaigns
  • Presentations
  • Social posts
  • Marketing and sales collateral

The target audiences range from small business owners to finance directors and CEOs in global corporations. The role involves some research, which will include learning about the client’s products and services, preparing for and then interviewing subject matter experts - plus keeping up with payroll and HR trends. A design sensitivity would be useful as you will have to communicate ideas to external designers or software coders.There are two senior copywriters working with the client. The other works mainly on offline projects and a range of commercially focused copy. 

THIS ROLE IS RIGHT FOR YOU IF...

You are someone who wants to work more closely with clients and brands, who is a self-starter, who can hold their own in an international team and relishes the opportunity to be a part of something fast-moving and dynamic. Someone with intellectual rigour and business acumen, but with soft skills including the ability to build rapport quickly. Someone who is organised enough to take projects and deliver them within the set timeframe in a professional manner. Someone who’s keen to add value to existing briefs and delight the end client. Someone, who with over 10 years’ copywriting experience (including B2B), is both conceptual and can turn their hand to short and long copy.

ABOUT THE TEAM YOU WILL BE JOINING

Reporting to the Group Account Director, the Senior Copywriter will work directly with internal client requestors. For this aspect of the role, you’ll need to be organised, technically literate, as well as hands on and proactive. You’ll be regularly communicating updates so that everyone is aware of progress

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING IN YOUR ROLE

  • Work on projects from start to finish
  • Produce creative copy with a clear rationale to accompany the work
  • Act as a Brand Guardian for the client following guidelines and tone of voice documents –while also helping to shape TOV across all markets
  • Create copy from scratch or rewrite copy written by product managers (anything from emails to comprehensive product descriptions)
  • Proofread other work and carefully check your own
  • Understand what makes GREAT content e.g., how to go beyond rewriting content that is already available and produce copy that genuinely helps the reader and ultimately drives conversion

WHAT IS REQUIRED

  • Work closely with the wider client team and subject experts, to ensure consistency and accuracy across all messaging
  • Make proactive recommendations for the direction of client projects
  • Undertake research and develop an understanding of the client’s target audience and competitor products
  • Have an appreciation for metrics and can make recommendations on how to measure the success of digital content
  • Form close relationships with the product team to source product information and product selling points
  • Create original on-brand copy across a variety of channels to a high standard, meeting tight deadlines
  • Be able to work independently but also as a team with the other Oliver writer and proofread each other’s work
  • Be able to write for UK and international audiences and show awareness of what this involves
  • Content localisation skills. Be ready to localise from US English to British English (and vice versa)
  • Solid interview skills. Be prepared to challenge the client’s info (even when this is from product experts) and know how to get the answers you need

WHAT SKILLS WILL HELP YOU BE SUCCESSFUL 

  • The ability to turn dry, technical words into on-brand, creative B2B digital copy that explains, motivates and sells
  • Creating original, impactful and engaging work for digital and print that stands out from the crowd
  • The ability to plan and work out strategies for high-profile projects
  • An excellent team player: collaborative and adept at building relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Must work well under pressure and manage workloads and multiple projects effectively
  • Be self-motivated, proactive and collaborative, with a can-do attitude
  • Attention to detail
  • All-round organisational skills
  • Competent PC or Mac user with relevant tech skills to be able to produce work electronically, and present online
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in:o Writing for agencies, or as a freelance senior copywritero Strong experience working and presenting to clientso Client sensitivity: understanding problems from a client perspectiveo Time management: planning and executing work in a timely and efficient mannero Communication skills: ability to communicate verbally as well as in writingo Team and leadership skills: ability to work collaboratively and lead in presentationso Able to think strategically and ideate from a strategic brief (or create a brief yourself)
