Director - Fund Accounting

Position Overview
The Director has responsibility for management of the Private Equity and Venture Capital financial reporting group (FRG) and supporting the CFO, the Fund Accounting Partner and FRG Managing Director regarding fund accounting matters. The Director will work in conjunction with the other FRG Directors and FRG Fund Controllers to manage and have oversight of the day-to-day accounting and financial statements of the Company’s fund partnership vehicles focused on Private Equity and Venture Capital. In this position, the Director will also oversee various projects across StepStone and manage various fund administrators. The Director will also work closely with the Fund Accounting Treasury and Operations teams along with the Investment Operations team.
Essential Job Functions:
- Lead department level projects and initiatives
- Represent the department in global cross-department initiatives
- Create, communicate, monitor and reinforce departmental vision, goals and objectives
- Assist in improving department efficiencies
- Guidance and training to junior members of the team
- Preparation of team performance reviews, goal setting, and provide career pathing and mentoring
- Coordinate deliverables across the team to ensure deadlines are met
- Support to other departments across StepStone for new fund launches and fund structuring
- Manage and oversee a portfolio of funds, which includes but is not limited to:
- Reviewing accounting entries from the Fund Administrator’s accounting and reporting systems
- Reviewing and reconciling cash and investment accounts with General Partner reports
- Reviewing of investment partnership reports
- Reviewing and reconciliation of capital account activity
- Review quarterly unaudited and annual audited financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
- Coordinate preparation of annual audits with outside CPA firm
- Review partner allocations and capital account statements
- Review management fees, distribution waterfalls and carried interest
- Review and distribute investor capital call and distribution notices
- Manage process for delivering quarterly and annual investor reports and other ad-hoc communications
- Corresponding with General Partners regarding accounting/reporting questions, or other issues, as necessary
- Corresponding with underlying investors regarding questions, requests, etc.
- Respond to investor requests in a timely manner
- Perform other duties as requested or as responsibilities dictate
- Perform other duties as required, including but not limited to:
- Support for tax reporting and analysis of tax matters
- Support for the Compliance team in overseeing the filings for ADV, Form PF, SLT, etc. for fund accounting
- Support for other departments across StepStone
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Investment Manager experience in private equity, venture capital, or hedge funds
- CPA and/or MBA Preferred
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting with 15+ years' professional accounting experience, with 5+ years in a management or a leadership role
- Direct and relevant experience with accounting for private equity partnership and/or fund of funds
- Ability to multi-task and manage priorities against fast-paced key deadlines
- Must be able to work independently but contribute in a team-oriented environment
- Previous experience with Investment Company Accounting and ASC 820 (FAS 157) and FIN 48
- Strong Microsoft Excel experience
- Experience training and managing junior professionals and reviewing the work of others

Salary Range - $160,000 - $200,000
The salary range is an estimate of pay for this position. Actual pay may vary depending on job-related factors that can include location, education, skill, and experience. The salary range does not include any benefits or other forms of possible compensation that may be available to employees.
