To meet this demand, we are looking for a passionate technical leader, preferably with a data technology background to lead our growing remote/flexible, globally-dispersed Competitive Intelligence Team. Our objective is to ensure fair and objective comparison of MongoDB versus other offerings on the marketplace, assisting clients in making informed choices, and assisting the leadership team in understanding the competitive landscape.  This particular role will be cross-industry and spans the data technology space from OLTP, Streaming, Search, and Edge, as well as supporting toolchains and environments. Therefore, we’re seeking an individual with relevant prior experience - whether from the business or technical side. The right individual for this role must be hands-on and energized by keeping on the pulse of the data industry's most current and progressive innovations, trends, and needs worldwide. Communication with clarity and being resourceful are critical for this function. The individual provides detailed data to the MongoDB C-level executive team with concise competitive analysis and market information is a core function of this role. 

As the Director of the MongoDB Competitive Intelligence team, you are the leader of a high-performing team and will set the strategy and direction. You define the priorities and ensure quality in execution and the right amount of urgency when required, always leveling up with the fast-paced growth of our company and expanding targets. This involves generating content (i.e. webinars, white papers, blogs, events, presentations, etc.) on various subjects, maintaining competitive data points, and being the competitive conscience for product management. 

The second leg of this role is the operational enablement of our salesforce, including the various services teams, in assisting them with well-structured measurable programs. These programs range from enhancing the understanding of the competitive landscape, building arguments, and objection handling to replacement programs for selected vendors.

MongoDB leaders are obsessed with their customers and earning their trust. Working closes not only with the enablement side towards sales, but actively supporting them in critical opportunities directly through presentation and fact-driven discussions with the clients. 

The team that you will manage is technically deep, and our responsibilities range from early research into potential competitors, collaboration with external partners, and generating materials for multiple parts of the organization to ensure success for MongoDB. Superb communication and presentation skills are a paramount prerequisite.  

You'll work closely with various company functions, including product, partners, marketing, and sales. You will play a key role in creating cross-functional success and therefore take an ownership mentality. The location for this role is flexible and can be remote from an East Coast time zone in North America or based in any of our East Coast North American offices.

As an ideal candidate, you will have
  • 10+ years in the industry in multiple areas or significant experience in related research or adjacent applicable functions
  • Competitive experience of at least 5 years with the function of briefing executives and driving a competitive strategy discussion
  • Deep understanding of the data technologies and its driving fundamentals 
  • Experience in analysis and interpretation of competitive data 
  • Experience with scalable and highly available distributed systems
  • Ability to discuss a broad range of data technologies (non linear list:  RDBMS, document, key-value, unstructured, noSQL, ISM, XQuery/XML,...)
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills with the ability to visualize and communicate complex information to all levels of an organization - both internally and externally 
  • Experience with briefing leading industry analysts and press and capability to position our products in context
  • The ability to travel up to 30% for clients, events, and the occasional team meetup 
You may also have
  • Advanced Degree with proven background (i.e. Masters, Ph.D), or equivalent experience equivalent proving systematic and programmatic capabilities 
  • Experience working with various database products, ETL tools and software solutions 
  • Worked as analyst for industry known entities
  • Experience with database programming and data models 
  • Additional language skills in other languages (Conversational is appropriate)

  • You are tightly aligned with our product management organization and communicate field requirements, changes you see in industry requirements to the product management leadership including monthly competitive updates
  • You demonstrate resilience and sound judgment in dealing with business challenges and are able to guide more junior colleagues to a successful resolution pattern
  • You proactively seek opportunities to support and mentor pre-sales team members and share best practices 
  • You have situational awareness and react appropriately in group settings

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role is posted below. Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package. Other benefits for eligible employees may include: equity, participation in the employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, 401(k) plan, mental health counseling, access to transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage, and health benefits offerings. Please note, the base salary range listed below and the benefits in this paragraph are only applicable to U.S.-based candidates.

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role in the U.S. is:$112,000—$220,000 USD
