To support our continued growth, we are seeking a Director of Transportation. The Director of Transportation will own, develop, and drive the strategic vision for our inbound and middle mile networks including Transportation Operations, Shipment Planning, Execution, Network Scheduling and Carrier Management. This leader and their team will be responsible for the end-to-end transportation network, across all modes (TL, LTL, SP) for the inbound & middle mile networks. This role will work closely with procurement, finance, FC operations, transportation field operations, engineering, delivery experience along with functional support partners to establish and implement a long-term strategic vision for our domestic truckload networks. A successful candidate will index highly in Customers First, Act Like an Owner, Think Big and Accelerate Time in addition to being focused on both the Team Member and third-party experience. This leader will also need to have an ability to lead autonomously under time constraints and be able to build strong cross-functional teams to deliver network solutions. 

  What You’ll Do 

  • Manage a team responsible for the day-to-day movement of freight from vendors into Chewy FCs, freight between Chewy FCs, and movements into Chewy’s small parcel provider networks.
  • Develop and implement network solutions aligned to Chewy’s overarching transportation, consolidation, and customer strategy across multiple functional areas (safety, operations, fulfillment, middle mile, facilities, ops tech, third-party management, HR, procurement, finance, customer/delivery experience, etc.). 
  • Own the five-year view and complete portfolio roadmap for domestic inbound and middle mile networks in addition to establishing metrics and mechanisms to meet business objectives. 
  • Develop and maintain portfolio roadmaps ensuring physical and technical enhancements along with communicating impact clearly across the organization. 
  • Build and drive a successful team by hiring exceptional talent, cultivating internal capability and promoting talent that Delivers Results. 
  • Apply data to understand customer and carrier behavior and transform those insights into clear business and technical improvements. 
  • Catalyze innovation by understanding market direction and trends to set priorities in collaboration with key partners using industry benchmarks and internal standards. 
  • Proven ability to perform in-depth analysis, synthesize results, develop stories, build strategies and make recommendations to business and technical leaders. 
  • Design long-term strategies and capabilities to facilitate groundbreaking innovation, enable growth, unlock incremental profitability and drive executive-level initiatives. 

What You’ll Need 

  • 10+ years’ experience in transportation logistics with an emphasis on domestic truckload, LTL, small parcel markets and logistics operations. 
  • Operations experience that includes facility start up and engagement, operations performance management in addition to integration with upstream partners, middle mile trans, ops tech, delivery, and customer experience. 
  • Proven ability to look at solutions in unconventional ways, build high performing teams, take ownership, and deliver results
  • Excellent leadership skills including sponsoring/leading cross-functional projects with broad scope and impact outside outbound while promoting collaboration between dependent teams. 
  • Ability to do tradeoffs analysis between business objectives with the ability to think systemically. Actively adopt change, challenge the status quo and make recommendations for improvements. Sees and drives potential opportunities and works with shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment 
  • Excellent communication skills with all layers in the organization (front-line to senior executives) and ability to develop rapport with other functional leaders inside and outside areas of control to influence decision making. 
  • Proven track record in taking on end-to-end ownership and successfully delivering results in a fast-paced and dynamic business environment.
