All our roles are hub based (Bristol, Glasgow or London), providing a dedicated space for collaboration, connection and teamwork. We're looking for candidates who can access either our Bristol or London hub in particular for this position and you’ll also have the flexibility to work from home.

Decarbonising the energy system by 2030 will affect all consumers of energy. OVO has a history of challenging the status quo, and we are bringing this entrepreneurial spirit to the decarbonisation challenge to find cheaper, simpler ways to put consumers at the heart of the energy transition. We are helping consumers to be flexible about when they use their energy, so that they can use more energy when it is cheaper and greener, and less when it’s more expensive and full of fossil fuels.

The Energy Strategy team (within the wider Energy team) drives the development of the commercial strategy for OVO’s Energy business. A core pillar of this team is the development and delivery of OVO’s flexibility strategy, including entry of assets into new and emerging markets, developing bidding strategies, and identifying future opportunities for flexibility value growth. We work closely with our flexibility platform, Kaluza, to develop market-leading functionality in the flexibility space.

This role will be instrumental in the success of OVO’s flexibility ambitions, working with stakeholders across OVO and Kaluza to interrogate market and customer data to understand drivers of value and identify opportunities for growth.  As a member of a lean and strategic function, you’ll be working with the full gambit of junior and senior stakeholders within and outside of OVO.

This is a really exciting, emerging area of the energy sector and OVO is at the leading edge of this revolution.

 

This role in a nutshell:

We’ve been working hard to bring our customers on the Path to Net Zero, engaging  consumers in flexibility. Power Move rewards customers who move energy out of peak times,  Power Move Flex offers additional opportunities to earn from Flex Events. While Charge Anytime and Heat Pump Plus help to make the decarbonisation of heat and transport more affordable. 

We now have the challenge of harnessing this consumer engagement into MWs and MWhs of flexibility, and making that available to balance the energy system at lower cost and lower carbon. This role will be the driving analytical force in unlocking this domestic flexibility opportunity. There will also be scope to work across the Energy Strategy space, supporting on our medium and long term energy market modelling and our innovation projects. Key activities will include:

  • Analysing new market opportunities, such as Distribution System Operator Tenders and ESO ancillary markets
  • Analysing flexibility value achieved, creating dashboards and reports to share learnings across the business. This will include presenting analysis to senior stakeholders.
  • Working closely with colleagues across OVO and Kaluza to collaborate on analyses and drive understanding.
  • Analyse consumption data and provide recommendations on proposition design to drive more flexibility response
  • Lots of other things! You will be our go-to expert on understanding this data, so exact activities will vary as new stuff turns up.

 

You’ll be a successful Energy Strategy Analyst here at OVO if you…

It is important that you have:

  • A commercial and strategic mindset able to interpret analysis results into opportunities
  • Strong analytical and modelling skills. Experience in data manipulation languages (such as SQL, Big Query, Python Pandas) and visualisation (e.g. Tableau, Looker).
  • Curiosity to dig into unknowns and find new opportunities for value growth
  • Comfort operating within ambiguity, and in a fast-paced, agile environment; some experience in a start-up / entrepreneur-led environment might be helpful
  • Strong prioritisation and self-organisation skills with a flexible, “find a way” mentality
  • Good stakeholder management, forming strong relationships with the analytical and flexibility communities internally and externally. A team player, open communicator and collaborator.
  • Passion for learning more about the energy industry and flexibility. Passionate about helping consumers decarbonise their energy footprint.

Ideally you will have:

  • Some experience in the energy industry, ideally in flexibility or monetisation of flexible assets such as batteries.
  • Passion for setting the future agenda for the energy industry, and being on the leading edge of change with a proven track record for bringing people on the journey with you.
  • Degree with a mathematics focus such as maths, science or engineering

We’ll pay you between £45,000 and £54,000, depending on your specific skills and experience. If your expectations are a little different, have a chat with us!
