About the Finance Team

Luno Accountants are a savvy bunch who love what they do. We handle the core accounting responsibilities at Luno and as a member of this fast-paced, growing team, you know your accounting principles applied in business from back to front, you are deadline-driven,  you have a problem-solving and value-adding mindset.

The role in a nutshell:

In this role, you will contribute to the Reporting and Control team’s strategy within the Luno Group.

Your mission will be:

Reporting responsibilities:

  • Complete ownership and detailed reviewer of respective legal entity trial balances within the assigned region
  • Review applicable reconciliations & sign off where relevant for all entities in the Region.
  • Liaise with the specialists on entity specific captions (i.e. Revenue and Customer Fund Balances) to ensure in-depth understanding of the numbers prepared by the specialists (act as second review of these numbers), also ensure accurate journaling of the numbers.
  • Review journal entries posted for accruals + prepayments.
  • Review and process regional tax journal entries - with a full understanding of how the values were derived
  • Review and  process regional payroll journal entries - alongside the preparation of a  full payroll reconciliation
  • Approve invoices and release regional specific payments in line with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Assist with value-added commentary on regional management accounts (clear understanding of regional results).

Audit & statutory responsibilities:

  • Key point of contact with the regional external and internal auditors for applicable entities. 
  • Responsible for project management of the regional external audit to ensure timely completion of annual audits and the adherence to regulatory reporting deadlines, up to and including the preparation of entity financial statements. 
  • Responsible for the final preparation(prior to audit commencement) of the audit packs (for the relevant entities) for recurring audit requests.
  • Completion of all legal entity statutory/ compliance related requests (i.e. surveys/ due diligence etc).

Governance, Risk and Control:

  • Contribute to the risk and control framework for region specific risks.
  • Key point of contact with the tax team on regional tax issues.
  • Act as finance representative at the Regional Board meetings (including preparation of regional finance decks).
  • Responsible for country specific compliance reporting.

Continuous Transformation:

  • Continued involvement in transformation projects i.e. assisting with building systems, improving process efficiencies, creating automation and implementing internal controls.

Ad-hoc:

  • Take ownership of the allocated system as system champion(where applicable).
  • Working closely with the FP&A discipline to ensure accurate expense forecasting for the region.
  • Assisting with ad-hoc tax tasks relating to the region.
A little about you:
  • Qualified Accountant 
  • Demonstrated understanding of regional entity structures and operations.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail through robust review processes.
  • Must be at an advanced level Excel / Google Sheets.
  • System experience with relevant ERP systems.
  • Ability to work remotely.
  • Candidates must have reliable internet connection and a conducive work from home set-up.

Advantageous (Nice to have requirements): 

  • Experience with cryptocurrencies, digital assets or financial assets.
  • Special tools / system experience Sage X3 and / or Tipalti
  • Experience working in a fast moving and ever-evolving environment.
