Financial Controller

As a Financial Controller at SumUp, you will support the Controlling function in overseeing the company's financial operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. You will play a crucial role in financial reporting, and assist in maintaining robust controls over quality of information.
Key responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Financial controller for middle tier entities within the group responsible for the statutory financial reporting
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS/GAAP.
- Coordinate and prepare internal financial reports, management accounts and financial statements.
- Review month-end results together with variance analysis for the material movements.
- Lead stand alone audits and assist in the Group audit.
- Oversee the timely and accurate submissions of monthly reporting and the month end closing process.
- Oversee annual closing activities applicable for the legal entities in scope.
General Ledger Management:
- Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions.
- Review of critical accounting entries of the accounting function
- Review key reconciliation performed by accounting function as part of the month end closing process - reconciliation of bank accounts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Review significant contracts and assess correctness of accounting records.
Process Improvement:
- Identify and recommend improvements to financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new accounting policies and procedures
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other finance team members to ensure cohesive and comprehensive financial management.
- Key liaison between FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Technical Accounting, Internal and External Audit teams
- Navigate complexity and strategic directions, in view of transfer pricing and collaborate with internal tax experts for proper reporting.
- Provide guidance to junior accounting staff as needed.
- Exercise critical judgment and remove critical blockers for the teams.
- Support ad hoc projects like due diligence, tax or internal restructuring projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (BA) or Master in Accounting is required
- Qualified or in a process of acquiring ACCA or equivalent
- 3 - 5 years of increasing financial responsibility in a similar position
- Relevant experience in accounting or finance, within a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Experience in Big 4 would be considered as advantage
- Robust knowledge of IFRS/GAAP financial reporting standards and financial reporting.
- Sound general legal, tax and compliance knowledge
- Fluent English, both written and spoken
- Second language is a plus (French, German, Italian)

- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Critical thinking and attention to detail.
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Result oriented focus on outcome over activity.
- Ability to weigh up options and produce practical and workable solutions.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently, keeping manager appraised of progress.
- Business acumen.
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Self-disciplined, self-driven and proactive.
