We are seeking a candidate based in India to align with our “Office First” strategy, while collaborating with a geographically distributed team that supports both our UK and European entities.

About us

At Modulr, our vision is a world where all businesses are powered by embedded payments. Modulr enables businesses, from SMEs to Enterprise, initially across the UK and Europe to efficiently pay-in, collect and disburse funds instantly via a range of payment schemes, accounts, and card products.  

We have created an industry-leading API platform with comprehensive online tools and access, to meet the demands of daily business payments. We have two routes to market. Our Core Business Payments product allows customers in any sector to connect to us and our expanding network of accounting and payroll platforms, including Sage, Xero, BrightPay and IRIS to automate payments. Our Vertical Solutions targets a growing range of industry verticals which directly connect their IT platforms to our APIs and webhooks. We solve complex payment problems for hundreds of clients in a range of industries, including Travel, Lending, Wage Advance, and Investment & Wealth.  

We are deeply integrated into the payment eco-system. In the UK, we are direct participants of Faster Payments and Bacs. Modulr hold settlement accounts at the Bank of England. Our payment network connectivity includes CHAPS, Open Banking, SEPA, SWIFT and account issuance in multiple currencies. We are principal issuing members of Visa and Mastercard schemes across UK and Europe.  

Our regulatory permissions and governance structure are the foundations of our business. We are regulated and supervised as an Authorised Electronic Money Institution (AEMI) in the UK by the Financial Conduct Authority and in the Netherlands by De Nederlandsche Bank.

The role

The Financial Crime Operations function executes processes to mitigate risks to Modulr as they relate to Money Laundering/Terrorist Financing, Fraud, Sanctions, and other Financial Crime risks (such as Anti-bribery & Corruption).  

An essential part of any operation, but especially first line risk functions, is to ensure the teams have consistent, good quality, processes & procedures that set out how we do things and that also highlight operational risks and the control environment employed to mitigate them. These are then supplemented with training material and a quality & competency framework.

The Financial Crime Analyst (Training & Quality) will undertake quality checking activities across Monitoring & Screening (Fraud) and CDD (onboarding & Refresh), for all India-based colleagues. Based on the outcomes of these checks, the analyst will provide constructive feedback and deliver relevant training to enhance colleague capabilities, quality metrics and continuous improvement. Additionally, they will produce and maintain operational documentation that is accurate, current, and reflective of the function’s responsibilities, activities, and controls.

As part of the role, you will help drive continuous improvement for the Operations function with a continual focus on efficiency and effectiveness. In addition, you will represent the function on significant Quality initiatives or business-wide projects and programmes working with our onshore Quality colleagues already in role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Quality checking across Monitoring & Screening & CDD activities to ensure accuracy, consistency & adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Training & Documentation: Create & deliver comprehensive training activities & materials to ensure smooth adoption by operational teams
  • The individual will be responsible for ensuring adherence to the Quality & Competency Framework, actively contributing to the full lifecycle of an analyst’s quality journey. This includes defining & supporting the approach & activities for onboarding, meeting training requirements, achieving & maintaining competency & delivering ongoing quality assurance.
  • Help ensure processes & touchpoints are efficient & seamless with a culture of continuous improvement. You will proactively identify & lead on opportunities to improve Quality & operational efficiency of the team helping Modulr to deliver high quality service & outcomes.
  • Deliver clear, concise & actionable quality reporting that highlights key trends, performance insights & areas for improvement across Monitoring & Screening & CDD activities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with Operations, Compliance, Product & Tech to ensure alignment & readiness across all impacted teams.

About you: 

  • You have experience in operating in a highly regulated environment, with experience of quality assurance activities and continuous improvement that drives efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Attention to detail with evidence of strong planning and delivery capabilities
  • Good communication and influencing skills, comfortable in being open to challenge but maintaining your position where appropriate
  • You’re structured and organised, able to handle the competing pressures of immediate tasks alongside longer term projects.
  • You enjoy sharing your knowledge and sharing your ideas about how we can improve.
  • You are focused on delivering a great service to “customers,” whether they are clients of Modulr, regulators, internal stakeholders, or broader industry participants.

Skills and experience:

  • Experience of working in financial services with good working knowledge of financial crime with a focus on quality, training & continuous improvement.
  • You should have an understanding of the regulatory landscape Modulr operate in.
  • Excellent communication & reporting skills, capable of producing clear, concise & actionable insights.
  • Assessing the adequacy and effectiveness of measures, controls and procedures put in place to ensure compliance with regulatory obligations. 
  • Proficiency in documentation & framework management, ensuring operational materials are accurate, current & aligned with functional responsibilities
