About the Role

We are looking for a Food Safety & Quality Assurance Supervisor who will take a hand-on approach to the maintenance and continuous improvement of our food safety management system and sanitation program. Under the guidance of the Sanitation Manager and the FSQA Manager, you will supervise a high-functioning team of Sanitation Leads, FSQA Technicians, and Sanitation Associates, providing them guidance and acting as a key decision maker when food safety or sanitation issues arise. You will be involved in overseeing the Sanitation process in all aspects, ensuring that the site/facility remains clean and tidy, and conforms to all the required company and regulatory standards. The incumbent will be tasked to collaborate with different departments, both internal to the plant and external,  to achieve optimum results. As part of the Food Safety and Sanitation team, you will play a key role in ensuring our customers receive high quality and safe ready-to-eat meals that they feel excited about serving to their families.

What you will be doing:

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and food safe work environment by training and coaching  Leads, Associates, and Technicians on SOPs to meet all job requirements and ensure compliance with all company and regulatory requirements. 
  • Provide support for HACCP reassessment by creating, revising, and implementing Sanitation and Food Safety SOPs based on facility equipment and infrastructure.
  • Monitor and report weekly Sanitation and Food Safety metrics (Pre-Op Inspections, MSS Adherence, EMP Results, HACCP Deviation, GMP Monitoring Non-Conformances).
  • Perform trend analysis on Sanitation and Food Safety/Quality monitoring data; utilize results to identify gaps and conduct root cause analysis to implement corrective actions and preventive measures in order to close the gaps.
  • Conduct and participate in seek-and-destroy activities as required.
  • Actively represent Sanitation and Food Safety requirements to site leadership to drive Sanitation/FSQA related changes to improve plant practices.
  • Collaboratively manage FSQA and Sanitation team scheduling, review and approve timesheets, hold daily team huddles, assist in investigations, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Act as primary escalation point and back-up to Sanitation Manager and/or FSQA Manager in their absence.
  • Ensure the team and yourself work in compliance with OH&S acts and regulations.
  • Use personal protective and safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer and report workplace hazards and dangers to the supervisor or employer.
  • Other duties as assigned

At a minimum, you have: 

  • Post-secondary education in Biological, Chemical, or Food Sciences, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years in a Food Safety role within food manufacturing facilities. Candidates with experience working in high risk / high care food manufacturing (RTE, meat processing) are preferred.
  • 1+ years of Sanitation experience is considered an asset.
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of HACCP principles, the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations and GFSI schemes.
  • Experience in Sanitation procedures, cleaning systems, chemicals and HSE.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with all levels of the site, organization and 3rd party contractors.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, coach, and build high performing teams.
  • Data driven approach towards problem solving with emphasis on root cause analysis and corrective/preventative action implementation. 
  • Ability to collaborate with internal groups and 3rd party sanitation contractors. 
  • Proficient skills in Google applications (Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Slides, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends as required by the business.
