Your mission

We are looking for a GenAI Regulatory Engineer as part of our effort to be the Open Access Accelerator for Trustworthy AI in Europe. Focussing on the EU AI Act and related Regulation and Standards, the main job of this role is to cover all aspects concerning GenAI (aka General Purpose AI Systems) with a focus on operationalising related requirements throughout the entire AI value chain and the possibilities to automate compliance with the AI Act via SW/AI tools. For illustration, this role is concerned with the classification of GPAIs, the role of downstream providers, transparency obligations, traceability and risk management. The main tasks include:

  • Build expertise on the technical aspects of compliance with the AI Act, focusing on requirements for GenAI and High-risk AI
  • Develop and apply methods for benchmarking compliance tools for the AI Act
  • Initiate and support the development of novel compliance tools
  • Investigate and address infrastructure needs for a large scale virtual test environment for AI Systems
  • Development of educational offerings on the AI Act for a tech audience, including workshops and trainings on GenAI (GPAIs) and High Risk AI 
  • Engage in the AI Engineering Community to acquire and share expertise concerning the EU AI Act
  • Engage with the EU Community and relevant Stakeholder groups to acquire and share expertise, e.g. Open Source Community, Think Thanks, public bodies, Academia & Institutes, Associations
  • Collaborate with teams at appliedAI (e.g. Engineering Team, Academy team) to maximize impact
  • This role involves occasional travel activities in Germany and the EU
  • Lead or contribute to policy-related activities (as the opportunity arises), e.g. compiling papers / reports, speaking at events

Your profile

  • Master or doctoral degree, 4-6 Years of relevant experience on GenAI and AI Regulation 
  • Good understanding of AI/ML Technology and the EU AI Act
  • Strong expertise in matters related to GenAI and methods for improving the quality of AI Systems (e.g. data governance, explainability, robustness, cybersecurity, accuracy)
  • Knowledge of Python and  related SW-development methodologies. Note: The role does not involve a lot of coding, but the candidate needs to understand and communicate and collaborate with Computer Scientists on compliance tooling. 
  • Self-starter with a can-do mentality who is able to implement collaborative projects with diverse contributors
  • Actively engages in GenAI communities  
  • Strong communicator, both verbally and in writing; Confident to speak in public
  • High proficiency in English and German
