This role reports to the Senior Director of Design.

The ideal candidate has a wealth of knowledge and experience in web development from the server to the client and excels in explaining sophisticated technological concepts to non-technical partners. Specifically, your key multi-functional partners will be digital designers, brand designers, integrated marketers, and technical operations. You are a strong leader and communicator. Your extensive knowledge of standard processes and web technology will help to drive our team’s culture of agile feature development and the broad support of our customers.

You will work hands-on with your team, write code and ship features daily,  and make vital decisions about our engineering practices and tech stack while keeping the team and company objectives and key results in mind. The ability to mentor the team in their aspirations to learn and improve their skills is a strong plus.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Own the development, maintenance, and implementation of a validated technical roadmap for our marketing sites, balancing vital upkeep and new features while addressing the needs of major customers.
  • Ownership of deployments to both front and backend platforms, including CI/CD strategies, content migration, and testing.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery protocols, security and performance monitoring, and other approaches to reinforce platform stability.
  • Define and codify coding standards, framework usage guidelines, and internal tooling standards to ease onboarding and provide guidance to external engineering resources.
  • Research and develop platform features that will empower internal partners to easily supply content with minimal involvement from engineering resources.
  • Make key decisions about which technologies and platforms to use and how best to maximise their features.
  • Extend, improve, and maintain developer documentation.
  • Continuously monitor analytics platforms and other tooling to identify issues and ways to improve SEO performance and other key benchmarks.
  • Write, test, and review front and backend code to improve both your and your team's work wherever possible.
  • Be responsible for projects from requirements gathering, technical scoping, time estimation, vendor onboarding, security assessment, and full development cycle.
  • Partner with design and marketing leaders to understand, clarify, and define UX requirements.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • 8+ years of full-stack web development experience, including 2+ years guiding and mentoring engineers in a fast-paced environment.
  • Authority in native client and server-side JavaScript, with 5+ years proven ability in Node and React.
  • Web-specific DevOps knowledge, encompassing a fundamental understanding of SEO, performance/caching, security, and vital areas of infrastructure-specific features.
  • Deep understanding of complex database-driven web applications and how they integrate with cloud services, APIs, etc.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with modern headless CMS platforms at the enterprise level, integrating with GraphQL and similar technologies, as well as modern ORMs and clients.
  • Proactive competence in finding and correcting issues and inefficiencies, improving workflows and pipelines, and hunting bugs across the entire tech stack.
  • Experienced in applying design thinking to create thoughtful human-centered web experiences. In this role, you’ll be working closely with Design and Marketing so understanding the customer’s point-of-view and requirements is vital.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate openly within a fast-moving team and across the organization.
