Manager, Production Engineering

The Production Engineer Manager will support, develop, and empower a team of Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) focused on platform engineering. The Cloud and Container Services team administers Fastly’s use of public cloud and delivers a reliable compute platform based on Kubernetes. The team works closely with partner teams such as Observability, Configuration Management, and Release Engineering to provide a unified experience for Fastly developers enabling them to build and manage the services our customers enjoy. We work in a high impact fast moving environment where you and the team you support can make a positive impact with our customers, products, and people.

What You'll Do

  • Remove ambiguity and advocate for continuous improvement
  • Mentor and provide regular feedback to engineers
  • Lead a distributed team of engineers and collaborate with internal customers
  • Recruit and hire engineers
  • Bring a product owner attitude to set clear expectations for roadmaps and work you're doing
  • High level of organization with a clear ability to prioritize, lead, budget, and deliver on time
  • Employ your excellent technical and non-technical communication skills to communicate roadmaps, project progress, and design documentation

What We're Looking For

  • Shown success working with teams building platforms and improving system reliability
  • A clear understanding of modern SRE principles around automation, toil, MTTR, and service levels
  • Experience nurturing and supporting a strong service ownership culture
  • A process improvement mindset, implementing solutions to increase efficiency and scalability
  • The ability to adapt and keep teams focused through shifting priorities and distractions
  • Ideal candidates will have ability to periodically travel to off-site engineering gatherings

We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:

  • Public clouds, containers/Kubernetes, virtualization, and configuration management
  • Coding in languages such as ruby, python, or go
  • Migrating physical or cloud-based workloads to new hosting platforms
  • Project management with Jira
  • Working with security and compliance teams to meet requirements for audits and internals security service level agreements

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home. 

Salary: 

The estimated salary range for this position is $181,220 to $226,520.

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
