MANAGER, STARSHIP AVIONICS BUILD (STARSHIP)

As a Manager, Starship Avionics Build within the Starship Avionics team, you will have a unique opportunity to lead a cross-functional team of individuals that build wire harnessing and integrated electro-mechanical assemblies in a high-rate environment. Our fundamental goal is to allow humanity to explore the stars; with it comes an extreme commitment to cost reduction, novel process definition, and rapid iteration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Avionics production of flight and development harnessing, ground service equipment supporting SSRs and ground stations, and electrical subassembly/component build and test
  • Ownership of avionics development test assets including environmental testing
  • Harness component innovation, design, and qualification
  • Manage a team of supervisors, technicians, and engineers that represent avionics harness and electro-mechanical assembly manufacturing on an aggressive production schedule
  • Identify internal and external resources required to support the Starship production rate; work with department management to ensure that these resources are assigned to the project
  • Develop and/or source new tools and capital equipment to drive harness manufacturing new heights of performance
  • Evangelize and drive design for manufacturing best practices and design for test with design engineers and test engineers
  • Lead the overall manufacturing development strategy for the areas under ownership for key metrics: quality, delivery, and cost. Actively measure team’s performance against these metrics

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field, science, or math
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing environment
  • 1+ years as supervisor, lead, manager or functioning in a leadership capacity

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere
  • Self-motivated with strong multi-tasking, organizational, communication and documentation skills
  • Previous experience leading a team of high performing engineers and/or specialists
  • Experience working in a highly adaptive and iterative environment
  • Experience working with and defining requirements for ERP, MRP and MES systems
  • Competence with electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.)
  • Experience defining production data requirements and statistical process control
  • Experience implementing automation into production processes
  • Creative problem solver that can assess risk and make decisions without all available data
  • High level understanding on how to interpret drawings and electrical schematics
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (Unigraphics, Solidworks or similar)
  • Experience with written and visual work instructions
  • Strong sense of accountability and integrity with excellent written and verbal communication skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This role is located in Starbase, TX (Brownsville, TX area)
  • Able to travel to various SpaceX locations
  • Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: 

Pay Range:Manager Starship Avionics Build: $150,000.00 - $190,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
