The Manufacturing Test Engineer serves as the key technical lead for electrical and functional testing, including Bring-up, Laser Safety and calibration processes [Laser Driver Pulse Calibration (LDPC), Elevation/Graywall] along with point cloud calibration capture process and its functional verification in manufacturing and industrialization. They ensure sustainability in all FTC processes (electrical, functional, calibration, verification) and provide technical escalation support in the contract manufacturer (CM) such as Celestica in Monterrey, MX (CMX), TPK in China, and Fabrinet (Thailand).

Responsibilities
  • Supports process changes in assigned FTC processes (Bring-up, LDPC, Elevation/Graywall, Reflectance, Retro and Geometric Calibrations, Firmware and calibration flash, Retro, Reflectance and 200m test), and Point Cloud Check
  • Ensures CM is compliant with all Luminar policies and procedures for FTC testing and calibration, as well as supporting or conducing manufacturing validation processes prior change releases in manufacturing process stations
  • Develops new supplier relationships and leads the technical knowledge transfer between advanced development engineering and contract manufacturers e.g. CMX, TPK Holding, Fabrinet
  • Defines and documents technical manufacturing test requirements and test specifications for procurement process in assigned FTC process for current, new products and change requests
  • Manages testing documentation using control versioning and traceable tools (Jama, Arena PDM and GitHub)
  • Coordinates the implementation of manufacturing process changes in contract manufacturers
  • Conducts Design Of Experiment (DOE), deployment of process changes, and validations in FTC processes
  • Supports CMs in FTC for product failure analysis and manufacturing test station troubleshooting
  • Trains CMs technical team to maintain FTC manufacturing process stations
  • Supports CMs technical procurement process for FTC process stations
  • Performs test sequence and software changes using listed tools: NI LabView, NI TestStand, Supernova, Python, MatLab, C++, C# and GitHub
  • Assists with change process and design proposal reviews, in mechanical proposal, using CAD tools (such as SolidWorks, eDrawings and AutoCAD) for manufacturing test stations
  • Assists with change process and design proposal reviews in electrical (analog/digital) schematic, drawing, and diagrams, PCBA design for manufacturing test stations
  Minimum Requirements 
  • Bachelor’s in electronic, electrical, mechatronic Engineer or related degree
  • 3 years of experience with manufacturing test development
  • 1 year of experience sustaining manufacturing process equipment  
  • Ability to work overnight and weekends as needed
Preferred Qualifications 
  • 2 years of experience with test development using NI Test Stand and LabView
  • 2 years Automotive manufacturing experience
  • 1 year experience with LIDAR testing for validation or manufacturing
  • 1 year experience with Alfamation Supernova test framework and Vector CANoe
  • Master’s degree in manufacturing automation or related
  • Optics or laser experience
  • ASPICE and IATF
  • AIAG MSA 4 or VDA 5

At Luminar, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays a base between $83,000.00 and $117,000.00* per year. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
