Senior Controls Engineer

We are seeking a very driven individual for Wayfair’s Controls/Software Engineering Team in the areas of Ignition, PLC/WCS software, and AMR design. The ideal candidate is an energetic team player with a proven background of advanced code writing in sortation systems, who understands how to effectively drive results. This candidate must also have an interest in innovating to solve business problems creatively and a willingness to immediately tackle key challenges. A willingness to travel and tackle the unknown is highly desirable.
This is a unique opportunity to build out Wayfair standards and work with multiple cross functional teams to have a standard (hardware and software) process within our automation platform and supply chain and logistics teams.
What You’ll Do:
- Create SCADA platforms using Ignition 8.X
- Write PLC programs and AOI in the desired platform used in live production of Wayfair systems (AB, Siemens, etc)
- PLC Code development/knowledge in Material Handling (transportation, merges, sortation, etc.)
- Leading AMR sortation projects (globally)
- Coordinate meetings and presentations to facilitate communication between stakeholders and vendors
- Craft clear and concise messages tailored to senior level stakeholder groups
- Challenge detail designs and black box systems
- Design and execute small engineered planned hardware/software projects
- Server architecture management for vendor software design environments
- Python software code writing
- Create diagrams for a machine or process
- Setup WMS PLC Software interface standards
- Set electrical Installation standards
- Ability to read electrical schematics and CAD drawings
- Server build specs and design environments
- PLC and scanner interface coding and data code manipulation
- Introduce Engineering/Equipment Change Request (ECR) and Engineering Change Authorization (ECA) processes to the enterprise
- Writes engineering instructions (EI)
- Effectively writes and executes appropriate turnover procedures
- Provides commissioning support for machine and system installations and start up support
- Performs Vendor Acceptance Test (VAT)
- Train and mentor team members and Maintenance Techs
- Capable of generating and implementing safety validation plans
- Ability and willingness to travel 50% with some International travel
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Masters’ Degree preferred not required
- Experience 5+ years in field engineering/application material handling field
- AMR project life cycle experience
- Demonstrated experience with PLC and HMI applications
- Experience programming Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens control panels
- Knowledge of power of control hardware and mechanical design
- Has lead a team of CE’s for at least 2+ years
- Proficient with SQL or other relational database query language
- Ability to read and understand technical and software documentation, set up and troubleshoot various communications networks
- Capability to troubleshoot hardware systems, components, devices, etc.
- Understands safety requirements of machine design and functionality and ensures issues/questions are raised accordingly
- Detail oriented, with strong analytical and organizational skills, who is also highly results oriented and proactive
- Understanding of Warehouse Management Systems and Control Systems are required to be successful in this role
- Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills. Effectively communicating with business partners and senior management both local and remote
- Ability to identify critical path items and adjust priorities accordingly with supporting documentation (priorities may change weekly)
- CEMA Standards familiarity
- Use NFPA79 design guidelines
- ISO 13849 Machine Safety
