The Okta SLED Solutions Engineering Team

The Okta Solutions Engineering team combines exceptional technical expertise with sharp business acumen, enabling team members to guide a diverse range of customers in leveraging the full potential of Okta’s Identity Platform. The Solution Engineering Manager Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Solution Engineering for Okta’s Public Sector organization, this role will lead a team of Solution Engineers focused on State, Local, and Higher Education U.S. opportunities.  Our Solutions Engineering leadership are adept at seeing ahead to future possibilities and translating them into breakthrough strategies. They are particularly results focused and partner closely with our Sales leadership to create and execute a plan of action to achieve our growth targets. 

What you’ll be doing 

  • Solution Engineering leaders prioritize the success of their team. You are responsible for working with your team on their professional growth through defined development plans and experiences.
  • You own and report on the business impact of your team as they work with prospects who are evaluating the Okta Identity Platform.  Team activities include demonstrations, technical deep dives, trials and POVs. 
  • You will actively work on deals, proposing strategies to help insure the success of opportunities.  This includes frequently participating in on-site deal support.
  • Promote the sense of “team within a team” by collaborating with the greater presales teams and business units at Okta.
  • Always recruiting!  You will attract, recruit, ramp, and mentor a team of great Solutions Engineers from diverse backgrounds and experiences.  

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Demonstrated success selling to US Government companies with strong preference to SLED organizations. A strong understanding of the sales motions necessary for success in the SLED market, with focus on security is a big plus.
  • Ability to influence technical decision makers and executives. Experience with and proponent of MEDDPICC and Value/Outcome based selling methodologies.
  • A vision for Okta’s opportunity in the market and how our customers will leverage Okta solutions to drive business outcomes.
  • 5+ years presales experience with supervisory responsibilities
  • Bachelors of Science in engineering, science or mathematics or equivalent experience

Additional Experience

  • Expertise in security product market trends and directional awareness of Okta’s roadmap and technology development efforts. Knowledge around the Okta platform and competitor product offerings.
  • Competency with security concepts and solutions; knowledge of customer enterprise security software (firewalls, proxies, VPN, CASB, databases and applications) welcome, however, competency in Identity and Access Management is highly desirable.

The OTE range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between:$251,000—$377,000 USD

Below is the annual On Target Compensation (OTE) range for candidates located in California, Colorado, New York and Washington. Your actual OTE, which is inclusive of base salary and incentive compensation, will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable) and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual OTE range for this position for candidates located in California, Colorado, New York, and Washington is between:$224,000—$336,000 USD
