Building the cloud infrastructure for the leading Low-Code Platform requires agile, reliable, highly secure, highly scalable, and highly available systems. As a Senior Product Manager in the Cloud Native strategic business unit, your mission will be to make that goal possible. At Appian, you will make a substantial impact on the growth of our cloud platform working within an agile, global team to design, develop, test, and deploy software systems to orchestrate and power Appian Cloud.

We're committed to pushing cutting edge trends in cloud infrastructure development in order to create the best possible experience for our customers. As a Senior Product Manager, you will be part of an empowered, global engineering team, drive product strategy and partner closely with cross-functional teams to define and deliver on the next phase of our cloud services.

What you’ll do:

A Senior Product Manager with the Cloud Native strategic business unit is responsible for the strategic direction and roadmap for one or more components of the core infrastructure on which all Appian Cloud customer sites run. This position is for you if you are deeply interested in cloud infrastructure and services, and especially if you are experienced with modern cloud native architectures, containerization, and orchestration. As such, we are looking for a person with a strong technical background and a desire to apply that expertise to decisions that have direct customer impact.

Work on an agile team to prioritize, define, and ensure success of infrastructure features for a high-level strategic roadmap, as well as increments of value continuously delivered at the sprint level.

  • Prioritize what we should build and in which order we should build them by analyzing internal and external customer use cases, understanding technology trends, incorporating information security requirements, and collaborating with stakeholders on product vision and strategy.

  • Present ideas and progress on new features through department-wide and internal team reviews to elicit feedback.

  • Define how infrastructure features will work through collaboration with engineers in design sessions, architecture diagrams, InfoSec review, and usability testing.

  • Manage the release and sprint backlog through planning and backlog grooming, working with squad coaches, engineers, and other product managers as needed.

  • Write detailed specifications for your peer product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to review and provide feedback on.

  • Track adoption and usage of new features, applying appropriate metrics and analytics to evaluate whether they are having the desired impact.

  • Guide features through to completion including writing documentation, prioritization of bug fixes and enhancements, and conducting adoption analysis.

To be successful in this role, you need:

  • Strong technical background, likely as a former cloud services software developer who later became a product manager or product owner.

  • Strategic thinker and problem solver with a proven ability to prioritize, negotiate, and execute in order to accomplish amazing things.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to draw clarity out of complex and ever-changing environments.

  • Experience with technologies used to power Cloud Native platforms.

  • Demonstrated technical background with a deep understanding of key concepts related to availability, scalability, resiliency, and especially security.

  • Experience with managing the operations and maintenance of production systems.

  • 4+ years of relevant experience with cloud infrastructure, currently in a Product Owner role, ideally with a product management title.

  • Believer in the principles of DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, and Policy as Code.

Nice to Have Experience:

  • Experience managing day-to-day technical and design direction for large scale systems and services.

  • Associate Level AWS Certification or hands on experience designing and launching products that leverage AWS Services (Cloudwatch, EC2, ELB, Route53, S3, VPC, ECR) to support mission-critical systems.

  • Sound understanding of the value of cutting edge infrastructure technologies like Kubernetes and concepts like Infrastructure as Code.

  • Experience as a product manager on a team that owns key DevOps infrastructure components such as GitLab, ArgoCD, or secrets management systems (like Vault).

  • Experience launching highly-available, large-scale, secure services in the cloud.

  • Eager to leverage your prior experience to help us take our product and cloud platform to new heights.

  • Experience navigating compliance frameworks such as SOC2, FedRamp, HITRUST, PCI.

Some of the tools and resources we will equip you with include:

  • Within your first few weeks of joining us, you will attend new hire orientation along with our 2-day engineering bootcamp to ensure you are set up for success

  • An agile-led work environment where you will be challenged and your ideas will be heard

Preferred Education:

BA/BS in Computer Science or related field
