A Typical Day: 

  • If the mission sounds exciting to you, we have a few different flavors of projects/skill sets that we are looking for in Data Security Team:Data Protection Platform (DPP): Build the platform to automatically classify the Airbnb data and protect the data based on the classifications with various strategies: Uplevel and scale services for automatic detection for data classificationContribute to the auto detection of the secret and critical data based using advanced machine learning models and patterns for all types of data storages such as RDS, Hive, and cloud storage and more.Unify data catalogs for all online and 3rd-party data Collect and maintain the metadata of all Airbnb data in a centralized repository and associate the data security attributes with the metadata, like the data classification, data ownership, data access, and data lineage etc, to provide a deep understanding of the risk of all Airbnb data.Build the platform to manage all the 3rd-party vendors integrated with the Airbnb platform and protect the Airbnb user data shared with vendorsEnable security enforcementLeverage data protection platform to ensure security enforcement at scale, while collaboratively engaging with data platform teams and product teams for data governance best practices. Integrate AI/ML into security practices to bring greater contextual awareness and wherever possible. E.g. Your Expertise:

The following are some examples of profiles that are relevant to us. If a subset of these things apply to you, please consider applying. We are looking to build a team of both specialists in security and generalists in software engineering.

  • 5+ years of software development or job related work experience.
  • Significant experience in at least one of the following programming languages: Java, Kotlin, Python.
  • Significant experience in any of the following: Generalist Backend, Full Stack Engineer, or Security Engineer experience.
  • Experience finding ways to enable other engineers to develop secure products by default without requiring security expertise.
  • Significant experience in building robust internal products/tools or production backend services at scale is a plus.
  • Solid defensive security experience, shipping projects that mitigate application or infrastructure risks at scale.
  • Significant experience with cryptography is a plus.
  • AI/ML experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of cloud computing (AWS) and/or Azure is a plus. 

Your Location:

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. How We'll Take Care of You:

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.  

Pay Range$185,000—$223,000 USD
