SENSOR HARDWARE ENGINEER (AVIONICS)

Our sensors development team works to design, test, and manufacture high-performance electronic sensors for the world's most advanced launch vehicles and spacecraft. The team is responsible for end-to-end development of application-specific sensor products to support critical rocket and spacecraft operations, systems, and control loops including propulsion, guidance, navigation, control, and environmental systems. We are seeking a technical individual contributor with sensor knowledge in the areas of thermal sensors such as RTDs, thermocouples, heat flux, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for temperature and/or heat flux sensing element technology trades.
  • Responsible for prototyping and evaluating thermal sensors, such as thermocouples, RTDs, and heat flux sensors.
  • Responsible for designing sensing elements.
  • Act as the responsible engineer for flight sensors from conception through design, build, qualification and flight operations.
  • Provide technical guidance on sensor use and integration on vehicle to thermal analysis and integration teams.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or physics
  • Experience designing and/or testing sensors
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years of experience using sensors or designing sensors
  • 2+ years of experience with sensor test and evaluation
  • Experience in multi-physics modeling of sensors such as COMSOL
  • Passion for sensors and measurement and demonstrated experience designing sensors for high reliability applications
  • Experience brining hardware designs from concept through design and into high volume production
  • Experience making design trades and closely interfacing with customers to ensure the correct sensor is designed

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to support extended hours and weekends when necessary to support launch and critical project timelines
  • Must be willing to travel <20%

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:    Pay Range:    Sensor Hardware Engineer/Level I: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00/per year    Sensor Hardware Engineer/Level II: $115,000.00 - $150,000.00/per year        Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
