Site Reliability Engineer, Data Foundations

As an Engineer, you will join one of our core platform teams as a key contributor to the development and maintenance of our foundational shared data systems. In this hands-on role, you’ll be able to see how your work powers the engineering, analytics and the platforms team to do their daily jobs more effectively.

What You’ll Do:
  • Monitors Production environment, provides support for incidents/alerts, provides technical guidance to junior engineers for resolving issues.
  • Takes on complex problems, designs and implements appropriate and scalable solutions
  • Delivers solutions with limited supervision and is able to autonomously overcome roadblocks
  • Participates in EDI consultations, platform improvements, and capacity planning
  • Demonstrates technical ownership, gives accurate estimates of work and completes multi-week/month scoped initiatives which are impactful to the team and the business 
  • Work closely with our team to understand their day to day issues and recommend automated solutions to solve their problems
  • Follow best practices in troubleshooting methodology to investigate complex problems
  • Work with minimal supervision and have a self-starter approach towards working on a variety of technologies
  • Participates in decision-making around architecture and roadmaps
  • Proposes ideas for technical improvements scoped at the team level
  • Work with an eye towards automation and efficiency, and look for opportunities to streamline processes and work
  • Follow best practices in documentation for all work completed, including updating existing, and writing new
  • Always use data to lead decisions and back up your assertions
  • Lead and run Subject Matter Expert programs for EDI to spread the knowledge to our large and diverse user base
  • Participate in an on call rotation which is distributed across the team
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with both internal and external stakeholders to keep all parties informed and up to speed on initiatives and projects
What You Have:
  • 2+ years of SRE and/or SWE experience while thinking like a data engineer
  • Strong experience in working with SQL, Terraform, Puppet, Git 
  • Experience with working with an enterprise cloud provider such as GCP (especially PubSub) or with Azure, AWS is a plus
  • Strong programming skills: Ideally in Python or Java
  • Experience working with both Linux and Windows
  • Strong Agile SDLC background
  • Experience with large scale enterprise environments in geographically diverse locations

 

Software Engineer, Storefront Engineering

What You’ll Do:

  • Flex your strength and knowledge on Java, DevOps, and microservice development.
  • Ensure services are built to industry best practices, including observability, architectural patterns, and inter-team dependency mechanisms (like SLOs)
  • Work closely with architects and other teams across Storefront to breakdown an existing PHP monolith into well defined Java Microservices with clean boundaries and clear API contracts
  • Work in the critical domain, designing & building a platform that interfaces with many different systems within and outside Wayfair and partner globally.
  • Write code to implement high-quality, scalable, future-proof services that will have effective system boundaries and will support long-term vision & strategy
  • Conduct technical debate across an entire platform and help come to durable documented conclusions
  • Drive high-impact architectural solutions  and hands-on development, including inception, design, execution, and delivery following good design and coding practices
  • Obsessively focus on production readiness for the team including testing, monitoring, deployment, documentation, and proactive troubleshooting
  • Identify risks and gaps in technical approaches and propose solutions to meet the department's technical vision
  • Work closely with product managers, designers, and peer engineering teams to define project requirements and execution plans

We Are A Match Because You Have:

  • 2+ years of experience in engineering, eComm domain expertise is a plus
  • Hands-on experience driving software transformations within high-growth environments at scale 
  • Experienced in architecting and building large-scale, cloud-based, and event-driven systems across various projects
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated experience driving teams forward and ability to influence results
  • Experience with GCP target cloud platform, or experience with AWS/Azure at scale
  • Experienced in distributed microservice architectures with well architected domain boundaries
  • Experience with high volume async messaging architectures
  • Experience in large scale relational and NoSQL style data stores
  • Common open source platforms, tools and framework knowledge, eg: Kafka, Kubernetes, Containerization, Java microservices, GraphQL APIs, Aerospike etc
