About the job

This position is needed to design and build Twilio’s next generation Billing architecture.

Billing is at the heart of Twilio’s communications and data solutions business and a foundational pillar required to help scale Twilio’s growth. We are focused on launching new Billing architecture to drive radical efficiencies in the business and pave the path for launching in new markets.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Design and implement large scale distributed systems to manage billing for Twilio’s products
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, architects and other senior engineers across Twilio on large scale projects
  • Drive operational and engineering excellence, and raise the bar on quality of engineering across the Billing team
  • Mentor and coach team of junior engineers who will execute on projects under your guidance

Required:

  • 10+ years of experience working on large scale distributed systems
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Compute Platform (GCP)
  • Experience programming in one or more of the following: Java, Python, Scala, or similar languages
  • Deep understanding of architectural patterns of high-scale web application (e.g., well-designed APIs, high volume data pipelines, efficient algorithms)
  • Strong customer focus, taking the time to really understand their needs and ensure we are solving their problems.
  • Proven track record of delivering in a fast paced and ambiguous environment

Desired:

  • Prior experience in the Billing domain with an understanding of industry trends
  • Understanding of 3P Billing products and prior experience in integrating with such products
Location

This role will be remote but is not eligible to be hired in San Francisco, CA, Oakland, CA, San Jose, CA, or the surrounding areas.

Travel

*Please note this role is open to candidates outside of Colorado, California, New York, and Washington. The information below is provided for candidates hired in those locations only.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:

  • Based in Colorado: $218,960 - $273,700.
  • Based in New York, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $231,840 - $289.800.
  • This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
