About the job

This position is needed to strengthen our existing team working on various data science, machine learning based SMS message delivery solutions to optimize Twilio’s SMS message routing near real time. You will help us build a globally scalable system to make the optimal delivery route choices for customers SMS messages, covering a multitude of different use cases. 

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

• Contribute to designing, building and configuring of software services, platforms and tools
• Work with the Product Managers on defining feature requirements 
• Participate in the backlog grooming and estimation processes
• Contribute to the solution design and feature ideas, betterments 
• Automate manual processes and develop tools to reduce repetitive work
• Write unit, integration, cluster and end-to-end tests to achieve high levels of code coverage and detect defects early
• Deploy code to the cloud, maintain operational excellence through service runbooks & metrics
• Break down large epics, lead grooming and work to ensure larger goals are delivered on time
• Mentor junior engineers

Required:

• 5+ years of experience with building, maintaining and scaling backend services
• Prior exposure to service-oriented architectures, microservices and REST APIs
• Experience with designing and operating reliable, scalable systems
• Readiness to participate in the on-call rotation
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience
• Strong soft skills, be prepared to frequently propose and discuss ideas and implementation with your teammates, as well as involving other stakeholders in Twilio
• Curious mindset - no-one has all the answers, we iterate and trial to solve for complex problems

Desired:

• Experience with cloud services (AWS, Google, Azure etc.)
• On-hands experience with Big Data processing tools and frameworks such as Apache Spark
• Experience with AWS DynamoDB, ElasticSearch or Kafka
• Keen interest in building machine learning based services and products

Location

 This role will be based in our Tallinn, Estonia office or remotely in Estonia, based on your preference.

Travel

We prioritize connection and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other. For this role, you may be required to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings.
