Toast is building out a New Ventures business unit with the goal of researching, developing, and scaling a new generation of products and business lines that can have a substantial impact on Toast’s long-term growth. As we get ready to make these new products available to all our customers we are looking to hire a Software Engineer II to come help us build the front end/UI of these products and delight our customers.

About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

As a Software Engineer II specializing in front-end development with React, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality user interfaces for our web applications. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to translate design concepts into functional and engaging user experiences. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of front-end technologies, a keen eye for design, and a commitment to delivering seamless UI/UX solutions.

• Develop and maintain front-end components and features using React.js
• Collaborate with designers and product managers to translate UI/UX design wireframes into code
• Optimize application performance for maximum speed and scalability
• Implement responsive design principles to ensure compatibility across various devices and browsers
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code following best practices and coding standards
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers
• Stay up-to-date with emerging front-end technologies and industry trends
• Troubleshoot and debug issues to ensure smooth user experience
• Work closely with back-end developers to integrate front-end components with server-side logic

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience  
• 2+ years of professional experience in front-end development
• Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and React.js
• Strong understanding of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibility
• Experience with RESTful APIs and asynchronous request handling
• Familiarity with Git version control system
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Special Sauce* (Nonessential Skills/Nice to Haves)

• Experience in an early stage technology startup or interest in startups
• Experience with Redux or other state management libraries
• Knowledge of front-end build tools such as Webpack, Babel, or Gulp
• Familiarity with unit testing frameworks such as Jest or Enzyme
• Experience with UI/UX design tools like Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.Pay Range$88,000—$141,000 CAD
