SPACE OPERATIONS NURSE – PART-TIME POSITION

SpaceX is currently building the world's next human spaceflight capability. We’re actively supporting a wide array of mission types - revolutionizing access to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) with cargo and crewed Dragon missions, returning humans to the Moon by developing a Human Lander System (HLS) for NASA’s Artemis program, and rapidly developing Starship, the first rocket and spacecraft designed to support crewed trips to Mars. As a member of our medical team you’ll assist in clinical care and research for operational missions. You’ll work under the clinical supervision of SpaceX physicians and assist with medical care and planning. You’ll be notified of upcoming missions and selected to support associated training and operational needs for missions each year. SpaceX is seeking excellent, team-oriented medical professionals who have a passion and interest in human spaceflight.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support human spaceflight mission medical operations such as launch preventative health programs, triage site operations, and recovery operations
  • Be responsible for organization and inventorying of equipment at the Cape clinic to support all operational needs
  • Be responsible for the occupational health program at the Cape clinic, under the supervision of SpaceX physicians
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to accomplish goals involving human spaceflight, public health, and occupational medicine involving SpaceX employees

POSITION DETAILS:

This is a part-time position. Selection as a SpaceX part-time nurse would qualify you for notification of any upcoming needs. Periodic training to develop and retain proficiency with all operations as well as operations support, are required as needed. Launch timelines can be dynamic so schedule flexibility is very beneficial.

  • LOCATION: Cape Canaveral, FL
  • SHIFT: All shifts
  • Missions occur about 4 times per year. Each mission provides the opportunity for approximately 2 weeks of work – 1 for training and preparation and 1 for mission support
  • In addition to mission support, you will support regular recurring work at the Clinic

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a registered nurse and able to practice in the state of FL
  • Must remain clinically active with regular work in an acute care setting such as hospital or ambulance service

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with helicopter and ship-based medical operations
  • Local candidates highly preferred.
  • Experience with clinical testing for infectious disease.
  • Emergency room experience.
  • Interest in working with interdisciplinary teams to solve complex problems.
  • Able to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as technical writing proficiency.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Schedule flexibility is mandatory; long hours and weekend work may be necessary in certain situations.
  • Ability to pass Space Force background check for Cape Canaveral.
