As a Sr. Engineering Manager on the Service Platform team, you will build infra components and systems that allow product facing engineering teams to build large-scale, distributed, and fault-tolerant systems. This encompasses high availability, low latency ingress infra for all incoming traffic (routing, load balancing, authorization), service to service communication and general purpose framework components for building reliable services at Databricks.

You will report directly to the Director of Engineering.

  • You will hire great engineers to build an outstanding team
  • You will support engineers in their career development by providing clear feedback, as well developing engineering leaders
  • You will ensure high technical standards by instituting processes (architecture reviews, testing) and culture (engineering excellence)
  • You will work with engineering and product leadership to build a long-term roadmap
  • You will coordinate execution and collaborate across teams to unblock cross-cutting projects

 

What we look for:

  • 5+ years experience working on large- scale distributed systems, frameworks, or platform infrastructure
  • Experience leading multi-project teams, mentoring staff-level software engineers and managers, and building new teams from the ground up to deliver value to Databricks customers
  • Can ensure the team builds high quality and reliable infrastructure services; experience being responsible for testing, quality, and service level agreements of a product; previous experience building teams in a complex technical domain, such as on distributed data systems or database internals
  • Experience attracting, hiring, and coaching engineers who meet the Databricks hiring standards; can up level existing team by hiring top-notch senior talent, growing leaders and helping struggling members; can gain the trust of the team and guide their careers
  • Experience building and running cloud platforms or learning new concepts in the SaaS space (e.g. technical background)
  • Comfort working cross functionality with product management and directly with customers; ability to understand product and customer personas
  • BS in Computer Science or related field (Masters or higher)

Pay Range Transparency

Databricks is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range(s) for this role is listed below and represents base salary range for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles.  Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, and specific work location. Based on the factors above, Databricks utilizes the full width of the range. The total compensation package for this position may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above. Local Pay Range$222,000—$300,000 USD
