Our opportunity:

Chewy is seeking an experienced and passionate Sr Program Manager to serve as the designated representative for a multi-site Chewy Vet Care (CVC) territory to assist with delivering our mission! Safety at Chewy is Paramount. Our Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) mission focuses on providing tools, resources, and environments that support safe, efficient, healthy behaviors and proactively encourages Team Members to manage their health and well-being. The Sr. Program Manager will be responsible for partnering with CVC operations team to implement Chewy EHS policies and ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations within their assigned territory. By using principles of modern-day safety science such as human performance, this individual will lead continuous improvement initiatives, influence operational leaders, and support their teams to reduce safety risks in our processes, providing a safe and healthy working environment for our Team Members. The successful candidate must build trust, inspire confidence in their operations team, and influence change by clearly articulating how and why. Successfully support the building of risk foresight into our operational practices and be able to analyze safety data. They must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise, and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. They must support and develop operational leaders on EHS visions, practices, and policies.

What you’ll do but not limited to:

  • Serve as the designated CVC EHS representative for an assigned territory, coordinating and implementing all areas of the Chewy EHS Program as directed by the EHS Associate Director.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of EHS regulations and Chewy policies.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Chewy EHS policies.
  • Measure the assigned territory and sites' performance against published requirements in EHS policies and identify improvement plans for the site to close all identified gaps.
  • Ensure EHS recordkeeping and data integrity and provide operations with accurate reporting (lead and lag) metrics to support business EHS initiatives.
  • Deliver projects on time to a high standard with operations.
  • Analyze EHS metrics to identify trends to justify allocating appropriate resources to areas with the highest safety risk.
  • Analyze EHS Audit results and develop and implement solutions to eliminate exposure to these risks and prevent injury at other CVCs
  • Ensure clinic leadership and Team Members are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy.
  • Provide training and education programs to staff members on EHS standard processes, emergency response, and proper handling of hazardous materials handling, and infection control.
  • Partner with sites and Workers' Compensation to ensure accurate incident management system recordkeeping and compliance with OSHA reporting standards and occupational health support is in place
  • Audit the quality, delivery (including qualifications of the trainer), and effectiveness of all required EHS training.
  • Ensure the development of our EHS talent while challenging their thinking to be constantly at the front of professional practice.
  • Review the effectiveness of deployed EHS tools, so they are simplified for use and are adding new value.
  • Partner with cross-functional collaborators to assess the impact of new processes on safety and the environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 50-75% of the time.

What you’ll need:

  • 10+ years of growing responsibilities in EHS, safety and/or environmental programs.
  • Bachelor's degree, or 3+ years of Chewy EHS experience.
  • Proven experience as an EHS professional, preferably in a veterinary clinic or healthcare setting with multi-site responsibilities.
  • Track record of effectively leading an operation comprising both salaried and hourly staff.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations specifically 29 CFR 1910.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations and standards, such as CDC, EPA and AAHA guidelines.
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort in working with senior collaborators.
  • Ability to develop and implement department goals and strategies.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability.
  • Strong people leader with 3-5 years of experience developing a diverse and dispersed team of health and safety professionals required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, being able to connect with internal collaborators and executive leadership.
  • Highly collaborative teammate who can build strong relationships with internal and external collaborators, including third-party vendors.
  • Experience interacting and driving partnerships with emergency agencies, regulatory authorities, and government officials at multiple levels required.
  • Capable of delivering high-quality work and data-driven initiatives on time with the ability to manage multiple projects or programs simultaneously.
  • Ability to be flexible, work through ambiguity, and succeed in a fast-paced environment while having the foresight to build mechanisms and develop strategies.
  • Willing to learn new skills and implement new technologies across Chewy.
  • Experience with Intelex, Avetta, Smartsheet, Safety Management Systems, Tableau, ServiceNow, Microsoft Office, or other similar workspace software.

Bonus:

  • Master’s degree in EHS, Safety Management, Environmental Sciences, or related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with or professional experience in veterinary clinic operations, animal handling protocols, and zoonotic disease prevention.
