Our Opportunity:

Chewy is looking for a Staff Business Intelligence Engineer to join our Merchandising Analytics Team. In this role, you will combine an understanding of analytics, finance, merchandising and a deep practical knowledge in developing and scaling solutions for the business. The solutions developed will allow business stakeholders to self-serve their analytic needs efficiently, increasing speed to insight and action for the business. The person in this role will work cross-functionally with category management, finance, and other analytics teams throughout the organization to create complementary solutions which help data tell the story that is required to understand both the inputs and outputs of our business.

The ideal candidate has deep experience in delivering high-quality business intelligence tools with industry leading solutions, such as Tableau, Power BI, etc. or highly customizable solutions that leverage Python, R, etc. from concept to implementation. Achieving this will require the candidate to operate with a high degree of autonomy to accelerate time, as well as expert level SQL and ELT skills to ensure that the data that funds these solutions is structured as efficiently as possible. A deep interest in data, passion for collaboration and communication, and an analytic, probing mind are all necessities.

What you'll do:

  • Design, develop and deploy business intelligence systems, enabling stakeholders to effectively manage the business and enhance decision making
  • Confirm that document, troubleshooting, evaluating, deploying, and documenting data management and business intelligence systems, enabling stakeholders to manage the     business and make effective decisions.
  • Work with business customers in understanding the business requirements and implementing solutions to support analytical and reporting needs.
  • Design and implement an analytical environment using third-party and in-house reporting tools, modeling metadata, building reports & dashboards and providing our           customers timely, flexible and structured access to their data.
  • Ensuring completeness and compatibility of the technical infrastructure to support system performance, availability and architecture requirements
  • Continuously improve merchandising BI offering based on the needs of stakeholders to improve their speed to insight

What you'll need:

  • Candidate must possess a BS or MS in Computer Science or related field/equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience with detailed knowledge of BI data warehouse technical architectures, infrastructure components, ETL/ ELT, and reporting/analytic tools
  • 8+ years of experience with BI/visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, BO, etc.
  • 5+ years of work experience in building self-serve BI solutions, canned reports, and enterprise level BI solutions
  • 4+ years of experience with data modeling in large Data warehousing, data lake environment
  • 4+ years of data science experience with building regression, classification models
  • 3+ years of experience with R, Python, Weka, SAS, Matlab, or other statistical/machine learning software
  • Exposure to Big Data stack environments (EMR, Hadoop, MapReduce, Hive)
  • Advanced analytical skills with excellent knowledge of SQL
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

Bonus:

  • Experience in gathering requirements and formulating business metrics for reporting
  • Experience with statistical models and building predictive models from scratch
  • Advanced technical skills using Python
  • Data modeling experience in Merchandising, Finance, Retail/Ecommerce

Compensation & Benefits:

Our salary range for a Staff Business Intelligence Engineer position is $156,000.00 - $255,000.00. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Non-exempt hourly team members accrue paid time off (PTO) while salaried-exempt team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Non-exempt hourly team members in Fulfillment Centers and Customer Service are also eligible for additional unplanned unpaid time off (UTO). Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
