Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The Community You Will Join:

You will join a collaborative team of data scientists, analysts, engineers, product managers and designers who build pricing products for Airbnb hosts. Your core team will consist of data scientists within the Guest & Host Data Science organization, who develop models, foundational tools, and insights to improve the Airbnb marketplace and product for guests and hosts.

The Difference You Will Make:

You will contribute to the development of a pricing guidance system for hosts, as well as methods (experimental and observational) to measure the impact of pricing feature launches. In addition, you will drive innovative pricing science through strategic initiatives, including early-stage and ambiguous 0-to-1 projects that require scientific rigor and creative business insight.

Your most impactful work will involve:

  • Collaborating with product and cross-functional teams to pioneer pricing strategies and guidance for hosts, translating advanced modeling into actionable recommendations.
  • Developing foundational models and experimental approaches that balance supply and demand in the marketplace, leveraging empirical methods to assess and iterate on pricing feature impact.
  • Crafting compelling data narratives to surface actionable insights, empower data-driven decision making, and influence the future direction of Airbnb’s pricing ecosystem.

A Typical Day:

  • Developing a deep understanding of how hosts think about pricing and  navigate and re-engage with our app via analysis and research.
  • Growing a strong relationship with cross-functional partners in Product, Engineering and Analytics.
  • Writing software (Python, SQL, R) to model, simulate and measure the impact of new pricing features.
  • Creatively diving into data to understand the differential effects of pricing feature launches and turning that understanding into clear insights.
  • Communicating learnings and insights to leaders and partners in a simple and lucid way

Your Expertise:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Econometrics or related field.
  • 9+ years of industry experience with Masters and 6+ years with a PhD.
  • Experience with experimentation, causal observational analysis, and pricing systems/marketplaces.
