Who We Are:

The Search, Marketing, and Recommendations Technology team is responsible for the algorithms powering Wayfair's global customer-facing experiences, serving over 22 million active customers. We also lead key investments in causal inference systems utilized across the company. Our mission is to empower our customers to discover their style and needs efficiently, offering an end-to-end personalized, inspiring experience that feels both meaningful and magical.

What You’ll Do:
  • Lead the technical strategy for our global causal inference initiatives, building frameworks that facilitate effective system interactions and clearly communicating this vision to a diverse audience.
  • Design and implement large-scale causal inference systems, including our experimentation platform, long-term impact models, and scalable synthetic control platforms.
  • Drive the development of advanced causal inference capabilities to assess the value of various customer marketing touchpoints (both on-site and off-site).
  • Integrate underlying models into a unified technology platform that supports stakeholders with diverse needs, helping them reach sound causal conclusions.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members to enhance their skills.
  • Collaborate with leaders in engineering, product management, data science, and business to address complex problems holistically.
We’re Excited About You Because You Have:
  • 7+ years of industry experience in one or more of the following: observational causal inference, experimentation, or building and maintaining large-scale measurement systems.
  • Proficient coding skills: advanced experience in Python for machine learning and causal inference, along with familiarity with workflow tools (e.g., Airflow, Composer) for batch and real-time processes.
  • Expertise in statistical modeling techniques, including experimental design, statistical inference, hypothesis testing, and optimization.
  • A proven track record of managing large-scale technical projects, including creating roadmaps, execution, and delivery.
  • The ability to work closely with senior business stakeholders, translate complex ideas for non-experts, and influence strategic decisions at the Director+ level.
  • A strong publication record in applied science journals (e.g., NeurIPS) is a plus.

The salary range for this position is $207,000 - $230,000* however, base pay offered may vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per individual states’ pay transparency laws.
