About the role:

Classy's Product Technology team is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join Classy’s Data Intelligence and Analytics team. The ideal candidate will combine solid engineering expertise with product aptitude, is driven by exciting technical challenges that come with scale, and thrives in a fast-paced, iterative, and collaborative environment. You'll spearhead initiatives that not only push the boundaries of technology but also contribute significantly to social good, working alongside a team of skilled and passionate developers. We want to talk to you if you are unfazed by the idea of implementing new data intelligence and analytics products in parallel with updating our existing reporting systems to make them more robust, maintainable, and scalable.

 

What you’ll accomplish:

  • Serve as tech lead for Data Intelligence & Analytics team, working collaboratively with experienced and engaged developers to design new features and re-architect existing ones
  • Deliver Classy’s next generation of client-facing data intelligence and analytics products
  • Analyze, design, and develop software that delivers clean, maintainable code within a large and established code base.
  • Contribute to a microservice based evolution of the technical infrastructure.
  • Within an Agile environment, work as part of a Scrum team and develop web-based software solutions.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence in software development practices and processes.

 

What you bring (Required):

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 6+ years of professional software development experience with server-side, web-based technologies
  • A deep sense of quality, and sharp engineering skills with strong computer science fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated experience building data & data analytics products from the ground up.
  • Experience working with external APIs, including understanding API contracts, throttling, and debugging.
  • Excellent understanding of distributed & microservices architectures with experience debugging distributed systems with high data loads.
  • Understanding of Scrum/Agile development methodologies along with the ability to understand product requirements and translate them into technical subtasks.
  • Proficiency with schema design in relational databases, as well as experience optimizing SQL queries and scaling databases.
  • High-level proficiency with any high level object oriented language (PHP, Node, etc). 
  • Familiarity with Docker
  • Familiarity with AWS (EC2, ECS, SQS, SNS, Lambda, Cloudwatch).
  • Familiarity with denormalized data stores (Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Algolia, etc.) and working with the large data sets.
  • Deep experience with code versioning tools (Git/Bitbucket).

 

What would be awesome to have (preferred):

  • Demonstrated professional experience as a data engineer.
  • Experience with refactoring complex architecture to microservice patterns.
  • Experience with frontend technologies and frameworks such as ReactJS, etc.
  • Experience with Laravel/PHP.
  • Experience with scaling Node.js services.
  • Experience with embedded analytics tools such as Amazon QuickSight, Microsoft Power BI, etc., integrating enhanced reporting and analytics directly into products.
  • Experience working with remote and/or offshore teams.

The total annual salary for this full-time position is $171,500 - $232,500 + equity + benefits.  As this is a remote position, the salary range was determined by role, level, and possible location across the US. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
