Staff Software Engineer - Monetization Engineering (Backend)

The Fastly Monetization Engineering team is looking for a technical leader with experience building and growing large-scale data pipelines. You will work across functions to design and create tools and systems for the Billing Platform, improve visibility, and handle the rapidly growing family of products. You will also help expand our ability to gain value from the data pipelines powering our real-time logging, stats, and control plane applications. This position could be filled at either the Staff or Principal level depending on your experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and participate in the design, building, deployment, and maintenance of globally distributed systems that collect and aggregate large amounts of data, as well as the tools to derive insights from that data including forecasting
  • Work in close partnership with your engineering leaders to build out and execute everything from project design to engineering standards 
  • Create solid technical solutions to complex & ambiguous problems with a focus on reliability, security, performance, observability, & scalability
  • Cross functional collaboration & ability to proactively look for opportunities to solve problems & align resources to solve a wide variety of projects
  • Maturity in technical communication upward and outward & aligning priorities
  • Make your support available to your team when and where they need it — a time zone compatible with the continental US, where your team will be, is a must for this role
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship & support to team members
  • Participate in an on-call rotation

What We’re Looking For 

  • Understanding of the challenges involved in building, operating and maintaining scalable and reliable streaming data pipelines
  • Experience in projects related to low-latency data collection and analysis
  • Experience with programming in Go or Ruby 
  • Writing code that is performant, maintainable, clear, and concise
  • A history of technical leadership for highly scalable & reliable software
  • A proactive technical lead who can execute effectively with a distributed team
  • Thoughtful, customer-driven approach to design and implementation
  • A history of mentoring and nurturing a diverse team

We'll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:

  • Go development
  • Relational and non-relational storage systems (MySQL, BigTable, BigQuery, Dynamo, Cassandra)
  • Cloud Technologies
  • Pub/sub style message queues (NSQ, Kafka, Google Pub/Sub, Kinesis)
  • Stream processing pipelines

Work Hours: This position will require you to be available during core business hours.

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home. 

Relocation IS NOT available for this position.

Salary:

The estimated salary range for this position is $181,220 to $226,520. 

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
