MongoDB Atlas is our database as a service offering and fastest growing product, allowing users to deploy fault-tolerant, secure, distributed MongoDB clusters in just minutes. Since becoming generally available in June 2022, Atlas Serverless has further simplified MongoDB deployment with minimal configuration, elastic scaling, and consumption-based pricing. 

The Atlas Serverless team is responsible for the core components of Atlas Serverless including load balancing, auto-scaling, multi-tenancy, consumption-based billing, security and performance. We are looking for a staff engineer to join the team. We are open to both remote and in-person candidates.

Role Responsibilities
  • Develop MongoDB Atlas Serverless features using Java and JavaScript/TypeScript, such as autoscaling, multi-tenancy, networking, security and monitoring
  • Build and maintain the Atlas Serverless infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud
  • Work across the organization to define the vision and road map for the long term architecture of MongoDB’s existing and future cloud based products
  • Align complex dependencies between interdependent teams / tech stacks
  • Lead and contribute to complex technical projects and initiatives that span multiple engineering teams  
  • Collaborate with product and design teams to incorporate user perspectives
  • Diagnose and fix production issues alongside customers and support engineers
  • Work with team members to improve our codebase, best practices, and design principles
  • Mentor other team members
Candidate Profile

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is proficient in a modern compiled programming language (Java, C++, C#, Go, etc.)
  • Has domain expertise with building massively scalable distributed systems, particularly with high level networking, proxies, load balancing, and end-to-end encryption
  • Has built large scale infrastructure, especially within a context of a SaaS/PaaS system, on at least one of the major public cloud providers like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud (or comparable equivalence)
  • Has experience in building industrial-strength software projects with a large code base spanning across a large organization with complex dependencies
  • Has experience in programming, debugging, and performance tuning distributed and/or highly concurrent software systems
  • Has excellent verbal and written technical communication skills
  • Is enthusiastic about mentoring junior engineers, aiding in their growth and development
  • Is curious, collaborative, and intellectually honest. You are not afraid to admit you don’t know something or to ask for help
  • Has a passion for problem solving and learning new things in the domains of computer science and software engineering
Success Measures
  • In 3 months, you'll have shipped code into production and collaborated with the team to solve challenging problems
  • In 6 months, you’ll be responsible for reviewing code and have contributed to a large project that involves multiple MongoDB engineering teams
  • In 12 months, you'll have pushed forward a major engineering initiative and built consensus and driven best practices around your domains of expertise across the organization

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role is posted below. Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package. Other benefits for eligible employees may include: equity, participation in the employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, 401(k) plan, mental health counseling, access to transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage, and health benefits offerings. Please note, the base salary range listed below and the benefits in this paragraph are only applicable to U.S.-based candidates.

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role in the U.S. is:$137,000—$270,000 USD
