vor 7 Monate

Vox is working on a new explainer podcast that will launch this fall, and we’re looking for a supervising producer to help lead the development and launch. The supervising producer, along with the host and editor, is responsible for turning an ambitious editorial vision that includes covering a broad swath of topics – from climate, to the economy, to culture and technology –  into reality. The SP is part showrunner, part highly skilled producer, and part cheerleader/mentor. The SP helps set the tone for the team’s work together, inspires team members to reach for creative and editorial excellence, and ensures a seamless, productive workflow. The supervising producer does produce and report episodes, as well as supervises the show’s producer, manages workflow and production schedules, and ensures the show is a success within the organization and with audiences.

The supervising producer should have a strong track record of developing creative, innovative audio journalism that breaks traditional formats. They will also have experience managing complex production workflows, mentoring junior staffers, and coordinating with partners and leadership across a large organization. Experience in new show development and launch is a plus. A curious mind and reverence for explanatory journalism are must-have qualities.

What you'll do:

  • Work closely with the show’s editor and host to develop and structure a new show – thinking creatively about how to break out of traditional formats to serve new audiences
  • Supervise and mentor a producer
  • Pitch, produce, and cut episodes
  • Create and manage production calendars, workflow and various projects
  • Collaborate with engineering and fact checking teams to check, mix, and finalize episodes
  • Collaborate with partners in marketing, audience development, and more to ensure the show is reaching the biggest audience possible
  • Conceive and plan ambitious multi-episode series
  • Work with the editor and host to create and execute a plan for the growth of the show’s ambition and impact
  • Ensure show meet Vox’s high journalistic and creative standards
  • Suggest interviews/excerpts to be featured on vox.com

What you'll bring:

  • Minimum of 5 years full time experience as an audio producer at a media organization working on a podcast or broadcast radio program
  • Experience working in highly innovative, creative, or narrative production formats, a strong desire to experiment
  • A demonstrated track record of breaking traditional formats
  • Strong collaborative skills, as well as the ability to delegate and prioritize effectively
  • Experience giving feedback on show pitches and guiding the episode development process
  • Ability to coach and develop host talent and producers
  • Advanced experience working in ProTools on short timelines, including cutting tape, assembly, and rough scoring
  • Expert editorial judgment
  • Experience managing producers or interns is ideal
  • Effective at multitasking; flexibility to adapt to shifting news on short notice
  • A passion for explanatory journalism
  • Creativity, initiative, and a desire to push the boundaries, and be innovative
  • Experience developing new creative show and segment ideas is a plus
