SUPERVISOR, RECOVERY OPERATIONS

The West Coast recovery team is responsible for recovering Falcon 9 and Payload fairings on land and at sea. The scope of the team includes the design, development, testing, planning, and execution of recovery missions for both our F9 launch vehicle and payload fairings. We are looking for organized and outside-the-box thinkers who are not afraid to go on an adventure or get their hands dirty.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and train recovery technicians so they can perform the rocket and fairing operations safely and reliably.
  • Own schedule and coordination of all personnel and dock operations to support Falcon 9 and fairing recovery. This includes offshore mission operations, dockside vessel maintenance, offload and delivery of flight hardware back to the launch site in Vandenberg, and general dock/warehouse organization.
  • Own regulatory/audit compliance, personnel safety, security, and mission readiness for the recovery technician team, vessel fleet, and dock.
  • Schedule and perform preventative maintenance on all aspects of recovery vessels and recovery hardware.
  • Improve upon current recovery methods; find ways to make it safer, cheaper, faster, more efficient, and more reliable.
  • Assist in the development of recovery capabilities by collaborating with post-processing sites, east coast recovery, and contracted vendors to develop the training and organization to grow the skills of the team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate. 
  • 2+ years of experience working in a technical, hands-on capacity focused on testing and/or troubleshooting mechanical, fluid and/or electrical systems.
  • 1+ years of prior leadership experience leading teams, projects or people.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • 5+ years of professional experience as a mechanic or hands-on technician.
  • 2+ years of experience managing 5+ employees.
  • 3+ years of professional experience with rocket launch and recovery operations.
  • 3+ years of experience with off-shore operations.
  • Professional experience within testing environment, focused on setting test objectives, writing test plans, and hands-on testing.
  • Hands-on experience building, maintaining, and modifying equipment.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Comfortable supporting offshore operations without getting debilitating sea-sickness.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work in tight spaces.
  • Must be able to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings, climbing hand over hand, and lifting 25 lbs.
  • Willing to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain, wind, open ocean.
  • Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise.
  • Ability to work on offshore vessels for extended duration without access to services normally available on shore.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery.
  • Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg.
  • Must be able to travel for short and extended trips as needed.
  • Standard hours for this shift are 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:        

Pay range:    Supervisor: $105,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year    

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
