Sustainability Manager (Contract)
The Opportunity
Mozilla Corporation is the non-profit-backed technology company that has shaped the internet for the better over the last 25 years. We make pioneering brands like Firefox, the privacy-minded web browser, and Pocket, a service for keeping up with the best content online.
Now, with more than 225 million people around the world using our products each month, we’re shaping the next 25 years of technology. Our work focuses on diverse areas including AI, social media, security and more. And we’re doing this while never losing our focus on our core mission – to make the internet better for everyone.
The Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the non-profit 501(c) Mozilla Foundation. This means we aren’t beholden to any shareholders — only to our mission. Along with 60,000+ volunteer contributors and collaborators all over the world, Mozillians design, build and distribute open-source software that enables people to enjoy the internet on their terms.
We are seeking an experienced Sustainability Manager to provide temporary coverage for about 7 months during a parental leave. This is a high-impact, hands-on role designed to ensure continuity and momentum across Mozilla’s core sustainability programs.
Below is a small snapshot of the work we do to give you an idea about some of the big things you could do at Mozilla.
About The Team and Role
The Sustainability Team serves as a trusted guide to Mozillians in building a more sustainable internet experience for all.
Our Sustainability Program is focused on three strategic pillars: ensuring that Mozilla is a responsible and trusted environmental steward, empowering Mozillians to build sustainability into their work, and enabling a healthy and sustainable internet. We are proud to have achieved carbon neutral status every year since 2019, to have announced an SBTI-aligned net zero target, and to support innovative projects at the intersection of AI and the environment through our Mozilla Technology Fund. Additional information on our Sustainability Program can be found in our 2025 Social and Environmental Impact Fact Sheet.
The Sustainability Manager will act as the primary owner for several critical sustainability initiatives during the leave period. They will work independently on complex, cross-functional projects, partner closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors, and represent the Sustainability Team across Mozilla.
This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical sustainability expertise with excellent project management, stakeholder engagement, and executive communication skills.
What You’ll Get To Do
In this role you will:
- Serve as the day-to-day owner of Mozilla’s sustainability program during the leave period, ensuring continuity, clear decision-making, and progress across priority initiatives.
- Lead completion of Mozilla’s 2025 carbon footprint, working closely with our carbon accounting partner and internal data owners to manage timelines, data quality assurance, and emissions analysis.
- Advance Mozilla’s net zero commitments by convening and supporting cross-functional working groups focused on high-impact Scope 3 categories, including Purchased Goods & Services and Business Travel, and helping pilot and scale decarbonization solutions.
- Monitor and support compliance readiness for climate-related regulation, including tracking the status of California SB 261 and coordinating timely publication of Mozilla’s climate-related financial risk disclosure if required.
- Support preparation of Mozilla’s 2026 Social and Environmental Impact (SEI) Fact Sheet, coordinating inputs, tracking progress, and ensuring alignment with Mozilla’s strategy and external commitments.
- Drive employee engagement and internal capability-building by leading Mozilla’s Environmental Champions program, supporting Earth Week 2026, and developing practical guidance to help teams make more sustainable choices.
- Represent Mozilla externally through participation in sustainability-focused memberships and forums (e.g., BSR, BC3), staying informed on emerging best practices, policy trends, and peer activity.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with senior stakeholders, translating complex sustainability topics into concise, decision-ready insights and recommendations.
What You Bring
- 7+ years of experience in sustainability, climate strategy, or ESG-related roles, either in-house or in a consulting environment, with demonstrated ownership of multi-stream projects.
- Strong technical grounding in greenhouse gas accounting, including the GHG Protocol (Scopes 1, 2, and 3), and hands-on experience managing or contributing to organization-wide carbon footprint measurements.
- Experience advancing decarbonization strategies, particularly for Scope 3 emissions, and working with cross-functional partners to design and implement practical solutions.
- Familiarity with sustainability reporting and climate-related regulation, such as TCFD-aligned disclosures, CA SB 261, CSRD, or similar frameworks, and comfort operating amid regulatory uncertainty.
- Working knowledge of corporate net zero commitments and science-based targets, including the Science Based Targets initiative.
- Proven ability to lead through influence, bringing together stakeholders across functions, navigating ambiguity, and maintaining momentum on complex initiatives without direct authority.
- Excellent communication skills, including experience engaging executive audiences and translating technical concepts into clear, actionable narratives.
- A strong service and collaboration mindset, with enthusiasm for employee engagement, internal education, and building shared ownership of sustainability goals.
- Experience in the technology sector or similarly complex, global organizations (preferred).
