Writer, Streaming Services | CNET
CNET is looking for a sharp writer to join our editorial team and support our coverage of streaming technology and content, with a focus on popular titles and services that affect our broad audience of digital media consumers. This role will involve a mix of writing, reporting and strategic updates of existing content. The streaming service writer will create stories and features based on current events and releases in streaming media, music, entertainment, social media, sports and related categories, as well as explainers, how-to articles and general buying advice. Today's streaming landscape is fast-paced, complex and constantly changing, and we want an engaged, knowledgeable expert to help us uncomplicate it so the CNET audiences can keep up. We offer a supportive, collaborative editorial team that takes our work (but not ourselves) seriously, plus regular coaching and mentorship. This writer will report to the editorial leader of CNET’s streaming services team.
This position will be fully remote with the option to occasionally work out of one of our physical US locations if desired.
What You'll Do:
- Write, edit and publish stories under deadline
- Follow industry and popular trends in streaming and entertainment
- Create exciting headlines and deliver clear, colorful, engaging reports
- Work cross-functionally to update and improve existing content
- Help team members brainstorm ideas for new articles and updates
- Build and maintain relationships with industry sources and company representatives
- Learn more about an important media category and grow reader trust
What We're Looking For:
- 1 year+ of writing and editing experience, preferably in digital publishing
- Familiarity with streaming and entertainment companies, creators, titles and trends
- The willingness to learn even more by diving into all the details
- The ability to help readers cut through gossip and to report on what matters
- An organized mind that has no problems cleanly tracking story ideas and publishes
- Flexibility and interest in growing a career that could develop into coverage of a variety of consumer technologies and topics
- A positive, collaborative attitude and the desire to work closely with colleagues beyond your immediate team
Compensation
- Cash Compensation Range: $50,000-$75,000 *Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
