StepStone Private Wealth is an investment platform with over $10 billion in AUM. StepStone Private Wealth is designed to expand access to the private markets for all investors. StepStone Private Wealth’s mission is to convert the private market advantages enjoyed by institutional investors into opportunities for individual investors. The team has over 100 employees with offices in Charlotte, Orlando, New York and La Jolla.  

About the role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Intern to support the StepStone Private Wealth Legal team in organizing, maintaining, and optimizing our legal document and folder systems. This internship offers hands-on experience in legal operations, compliance support, and document management within a dynamic legal environment. You will work with various teams within StepStone Private Wealth in particular Legal and Compliance.

What you’ll do

The Legal Intern will be responsible for supporting the document management of StepStone Private Wealth. The Legal Intern will organize legal documents to create a complete repository with all documents for StepStone Private Wealth. Education is also important and the Legal Intern will participate in various calls and team meetings to better understand and gain insights to the private markets.

Key responsibilities

  • Audit and organize existing legal documents and folders across shared drives and document management platforms.
  • Assist in migrating legal files from legacy systems to centralized platforms such as Box or SharePoint.
  • Apply naming conventions and folder structures in accordance with internal compliance and legal standards.
  • Identify outdated or redundant files and coordinate archival or deletion processes.
  • Ensure appropriate access permissions and security protocols are applied to all folders and documents.
  • Support the Legal team in preparing documentation for audits, regulatory filings, and internal reviews.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and compliance officers to maintain accurate and up-to-date legal records.

What we’re looking for

  • Must be able to work legally in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future
  • Undergraduate student graduating anywhere from December 2026 through June 2028
  • GPA of 3.2 or higher
  • Must be able to work in-person in our Charlotte, NC office approximately 20 hours a week.
  • Professionally communicate with all levels of staff, internal and external
  • Highly organized individual who is detail-oriented, logical, able to multi-task and committed to meeting deadlines with limited supervision
  • Strong process improvement orientation; project management skill sets
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both verbally and in written form, and proficiency in the use of electronic document databases and filing systems software and other office equipment is required
  • Flourish in a challenging, fast-paced, and professional environment with frequent shifts in priorities as business needs dictate
  • Have a strong sense of integrity, behaving consistently with expressed values and ethical principles of StepStone
  • Focus on specific goals and demonstrate a sense of personal growth, accountability and urgency for achieving results
