About the role
As an Android Tech Lead in the Hardware tribe you will oversee a range of projects - parts of the SumUp SuperApp which interacts with our card readers, the SumUp Mobile SDK, tap to pay - which allows merchants to accept card payments with their Android devices, and more!
You will be working with a small team of highly skilled android engineers and you will also be part of and collaborate on a global level with the broader Mobile chapter.
The role is based on-site in our office in Berlin. We believe in the power of face-to-face conversations that happen organically when working next to one another.
What you’ll do
- Boost delivery of planned work (whatever is impactful and moves the needle)
- Raise the bar on the technical side (including managing tech debt and roadmap)
- Input on unplanned work when it comes in, help with steering, advise on complexity/achievability, etc.
- Have a keen eye on operations, opportunities for improvement (e.g better observability, tooling, etc.)
- Run the Android Mobile Chapter (currently 6 engineers), design & architecture discussions included
You'll be great for this position if:
- You have been working in the Android domain for more than 7 years.
- You have hands-on experience building mobile applications of similar complexity to SumUp’s Super App.
- You are proficient with Kotlin, Java and the Android framework.
- You understand testing principles, including the importance of testing, and the ability to write robust and adaptable tests.
- You care about user interaction and usability, and have a keen eye for detail
- You are committed to writing clean code while being adaptable and pragmatic when necessary.
- You are willing to seek assistance from Google or colleagues when faced with challenges beyond one's expertise.
Nice to have:
- You have experience with building and releasing SDKs.
