The Opportunity

At Payments, Credit Risk and Collections (“PCRC”) in Finance, we are proud to be the gatekeepers of Agoda’s money. Our job is three-fold; enable smooth payments from and to partners, help decide who Agoda should advance money to and how to collect what we are owed. As part of this, PCRC manages commercial partnerships with fintech players, manages operational aspects of payouts, assesses, and manages Agoda’s counterparty credit risk and collects payments and tax invoices for select products globally.  

Payments function within PCRC is looking for an Anti-Money Laundering Officer who will support the team translating the AML Policy to operational procedures and measurements including reviewing, analysing and submitting the materials for Transaction Monitoring, Sanctions & PEP Screening, Customer Due Diligence and Regulatory questionnaires.     

 

In this Role, you'll get to 

Legal, Payments, and Regulatory Compliance 

  • Be officially designated and registered as the Reporting Officer with relevant Korean regulatory authorities, and fulfill all duties and responsibilities required under applicable laws and regulations. 

  • Lead the ongoing review, update, and implementation of internal AML and compliance policies, procedures, and controls, including board reporting, regulatory notifications, and continuous improvement based on audit findings and regulatory changes. 

  • Translating policy into operational procedures, including reviewing and submitting materials for Transaction Monitoring, Sanctions & PEP Screening, Customer Due Diligence, and regulatory questionnaires. 

  • Engage with regulators and respond to information requests; prepare and submit legally mandated financial and technology reports. 

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with payment operations, gateway licensing, FX business registration, and other regulatory requirements based on Electronic Financial Transactions Act, Act on Reporting and Use of Certain Financial Transaction Information, and Foreign Exchange Transactions Act. 

  • Coordinate timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting across Agoda to meet all regulatory deadlines. 

  • Serve as the first point of contact for issues with local payments, providers, banks, and regulatory partners (e.g., FSS, Bank of Korea, KoFIU), ensuring swift resolution of concerns. 

  • Work closely with local authorities, payment partners, legal, and tax advisers to stay ahead of regulatory changes and adapt compliance activities as needed. 

  • Provide advice, training, and deliver compliance communications to local teams and head office staff to ensure readiness for local Korean payments and regulatory requirements. 

  • Undergo and support mandatory trainings on AML, Sanctions, and FX conversion. 

  • Examine, organize, and analyze information to create clear, actionable work products; present findings and proactively update stakeholders. 

  • Support wider Agoda and BHI Compliance and Ethics initiatives, including participation in group projects, delivery of training, and contribution to communications and awareness campaigns. 

 

What you'll Need to Succeed

  • Proficient in Korean and English – reading, writing, and speaking   

  • Has experience interacting with Korean regulators   

  • Ideally has 4-7 years' AML experience 

  • Have presence, communication skills, writing skills, diplomacy, and credibility necessary to effectively influence external partners and internal stakeholders  

  • Good organization skills and adheres to deadlines.   

  • Good presentation skills and ability to prepare and conduct internal training (as guided by the team). 

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow up on assignments and produce a high quality work product 

  • Experience as a paralegal, legal secretary or other light touch legal position is preferable.
